What You'll Do


The Advisor, Corporate Communications is responsible for supporting the day-to-day execution of strategic communications activities on their assigned portfolio, such as issues management, materials development, media monitoring and reporting, program development, stakeholder relations and events.


Working in a fast-paced environment on multiple simultaneous initiatives, the Advisor, Corporate Communications must possess experience in media relations, communications planning and developing associated materials with strong project management skills.


  • Execute "daytoday" communications that support portfolio partners, including program development, stakeholder relations, events, and media relations
  • Develop and execute communication plans and programs that meet business and stakeholder requirements while ensuring consistent, timely and efficient communications
  • Develop media materials, including press releases, key messages and Q&As
  • Act as a communication team player on initiatives focused on advancing the Company's Better Connected Strategy and its initiatives, working closely with managers, business leads and project teams to develop effective and integrated communication plans and presentations
  • Develop and share accurate and timely postreports with internal and external stakeholders
  • Respond quickly to internal and external requests and provide required materials or information
  • Support issues management activities to protect and maintain brand reputation
  • Participate in the measurement of the effectiveness of communication channels and provide expertise in the development of recommended opportunities for improvement
  • Research, stay current, and share relevant findings about emerging trends, best practices and opportunities in the field
  • Make recommendations that enhance communications programming with the goal of improving the execution of communications at Canadian Tire
  • Occasional travel to provide media relations/spokesperson support at events

What you bring

  • 68 years of progressive experience in the communication field, with media relations and writing experience
  • Postsecondary education in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related degree/diploma
  • Superior writing skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to write for a range of audiences
  • Ability to distill complicated background information or verbal briefings into clear and concise written materials
  • Knowledge of and passion for the sport and/or nonprofit industries
  • Experience working directly with media
  • Experience/knowledge of social media and influencer marketing
  • Excellent spoken and interpersonal communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to balance multiple projects, prioritize and deliver programs and tactics on time in a fastpaced, deadlineoriented environment
  • Ability to manage in an environment of change and ambiguity
  • Ability to be outcomefocused and actionoriented
  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze and visualize to ensure continuous improvement across our entire business
  • Collaborative style with superior influencing skills
