Our programs and services include employment services, supportive housing and homeless outreach, temporary shelter services, literacy programs and outreach, immigrant services, adult and family on-demand support.

We also provide community leadership and development in overdose response planning, poverty reduction planning, and other projects that develop a more connected and resilient community.

Lift operates many resource centres in our community, including the local WorkBC Centre, the Community Resource Centre, the Family Place, and the Dr.

Elsie Paul Literacy Centre and the Nook Social Enterprise Cafe both located at the Powell River Public Library.

Key Tasks and Competencies

  • Cleaning procedures (daily or as protocols dictate), toy and library rotation, materials prep for specific programming including food, art supplies, play centres, office and promotional needs.
  • Ensure comfort and safety on site. Ensure fellow staff members safety and staffing coverage as required by manager
  • Interact with various members of the community, family members and other community professionals. The Family Place is a resource hub for families and it is expected that staff members are knowledgeable in "in house" as well as other service providers program and resources, specific to any family's immediate or changing needs.
  • Build relationships with parents and children to create safe connections and trust worthy communications.
  • Prepare to bring creativity, hard work, patience and a good sense of humour. Be flexible and responsive.

Qualifications and Lived Experience

  • Training, education or experience in early childhood development
  • Familiarity with local services and programs for the 06 population and their parents
  • Excellent interpersonal behaviour and communication skills with a nonjudgmental, accepting attitude.
  • Good written and verbal command of English language, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, meet deadlines and keep accurate records.
  • Requires a Vulnerable Population Criminal Record Check

Education and Training

  • Experience in adult education, facilitation, nonviolent communication, trauma informed practices, family literacy or related fields preferred.
