    Job Summary:

    The Lab/ QC Technician performs analytical chemistry analyses under general supervision in a chemical manufacturing complex laboratory. The Laboratory / QC Technician collects samples from locations throughout the complex, prepares samples, completes testing and analysis, performs mathematical calculations, and documents and communicates results of analysis of various process, product, and environmental samples. Analytical chemistry methods used include but are not limited to wet chemistry methods, physical property analysis, gas/liquid chromatography, various spectroscopy methods, product quality assurance, and operations support.

    What You'll Do:

  • Sample collection and analysis according to precise established operating procedures.
  • Perform and validate analyses of product, and process stream samples according to operating procedures.
  • Prepare commonly used reagents including from hazardous stock reagents such as concentrated acids, bases, and solvents.
  • Conduct chemical or physical laboratory tests to assist operations in making qualitative or quantitative analyses of materials.
  • Recognize and execute on condition parameters for re-sampling and re-testing.
  • Record analytical results into system software and report results to applicable stakeholders in defined timeframes.
  • Monitor and communicate product quality to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Recognize deviations in analytical results and execute reporting protocols for procedural or analytical non-conformances, off-spec product or process stream anomalies.
  • Understand and comply with established processes and procedures designed to support internal controls efforts. Identify and bring to the attention of management internal controls deficiencies.
  • Champion the pursuit of safety, regulatory compliance and operational excellence including proper use of PPE necessary for each task, implementing established safety procedures and protocols for each job, identifying hazards or incidents, and communicating findings using established procedures
  • What You'll Bring:

  • Education : Bachelor's degree or Diploma or its equivalent in physical sciences typically preferred.
  • Years of experience
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025 would be considered an asset.
  • Laboratory safety: Experience with fundamental procedures and protocols ensuring laboratory methods are performed safely.
  • Laboratory techniques: Knowledge of laboratory techniques and testing, including performing analytical chemistry methods. Sample collection, preparation methods and analysis to established schedules and procedures and testing, including performing analytical chemistry methods.
  • Data analysis : Strong data analysis and critical thinking skills are essential while developing an understanding of plant processes, products, and environmental requirements.
  • IT Systems and software : Knowledge or experience in using computer systems and programs for data reporting, analysis, and records maintenance.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate through effective listening, writing and verbal communication skills
