Recreation Coordinator (Temporary Full-Time)


Under the direction of the Administration, the Recreation Coordinator will assist in implementing meaningful recreation and social wellness programs that meet the interests, needs, and abilities of the residents at our
Tiffany Village and
Kenny's Pond Retirement Residence locations.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Carries out established recreation programs including, but not limited to, outings, social events, entertainment, games, crafts, activities, etc. for both Independent and Assisted Living Residents.
  • Carries out therapeutic recreation programs for Assisted Living Residents including, but not limited to, music therapy, art therapy, and various sensory stimulation programs.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of Resident Social & Wellness profiles.
  • Assists with admission/orientation of new residents.
  • Assists/escorts residents to, during, and from programs as required.
  • Promotes the health of our residents to include social, spiritual, physical, mental, cultural and recreational activities.
  • Observes and reports any changes in residents' behavior and social wellness to immediate supervisor and Resident Care Manager or her designate, as deemed appropriate.
  • Ensures written documentation and verbal reports are maintained as per Company policy and procedures with respect to confidentiality and security.
  • Fosters an environment of engagement, encouragement and safeguard to ensure residents' rights are maintained, particularly for those seniors who are vulnerable and require guidance/support.
  • Promotes residents' independence and wellbeing.
  • Ensures recreational equipment and supplies are used, maintained and stored in a safe, clean, and efficient manner. Reports unsafe or faulty equipment to Manager.
  • Responsible for setup and break down involved in all recreation/social wellness activities.
  • Actively participates in meetings, committees and educational inservices as required and maintains effective collaboration with other professionals and volunteers.
  • Provides guidance, assistance and support in the enhancement of our Volunteer Program.
  • Performs other related duties as required to ensure quality holistic resident care/service.

Hours of Work:


  • Fulltime hours regularly scheduled in advance for a minimum of 75 hours biweekly.
  • Hours of work will vary from week to week in order to maintain a flexible environment to meet the needs of our residents.
  • Hours will include daytime, evening, weekend and holiday coverage, as required.

Qualifications:


Abilities and Skills:


  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in ability to treat residents with respect, dignity and care.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in ability to resolve contentious or sensitive issues, or situations involving conflict resolution.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Demonstrates a strong desire to serve and care for seniors, encouraging participation in recreational activities including the provision of oneonone support when necessary.
  • Residentcentered approach to care, as well as an awareness of the potential for cognitive changes to occur.
  • Professional, open, friendly, team player, responsive and positive.
  • Trustworthy, reliable, dependable.
  • Shows initiative and commitment to excellence.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of resident information.

Experience, Training/Education and Work Record:


  • Bachelor of Recreation Degree and/or Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation, Leisure Studies and/or Gerontology is required.
  • Provincial driver's license for bus (Class IV).
  • 13 years' previous experience working as a Recreation Coordinator in the field of seniors' living/care.
  • Previous volunteer experience in some capacity; within the field of seniors' living/care is preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, motivating, compassionate and caring person who has demonstrated passion to work with seniors.
  • Ability to work in a flexible, resilient environment to meet the needs of residents.
  • A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.

Rate of Pay:

- $17.93 per hour as per the current Collective Agreement


Salary:
$17.93 per hour


Schedule:

  • 12 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Evening shift
  • Weekends as needed

Experience:

- recreational therapy: 1 year (required)


Licence/Certification:

  • First Aid Certification (preferred)
  • Driving Licence (preferred)
