TITLE:
Employment Specialist/Job Coach (Orchard Program)


Reporting Relationship:
Orchard Program Coordinator


Qualifications:
Degree or diploma in Business, Human Services, or Education; a minimum of 2 years experience in adult education or, skills training with excellent marketing skills,

Aid & CPR; experience in the customer service industry is preferred.


Job Summary:
In keeping with the philosophy of inclusion and self-determination and the mission of


Hutton House, the Employment Specialist will be responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of Work Experience Placements aimed at securing and maintaining employment training for young adults with disabilities.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1.


Work Experience Placement Development:

Developing and maintaining 40 rotating work experience subsidized placements during the contract term.

Engaging the participant, as appropriate, to actively select the work experience placement, ensuring the participant is kept informed of progress.

Identifying possible work experience prospects within the participant's "employment" community.

Researching work experience opportunities including (as required) an initial workplace analysis to further refine an employment match.

Marketing the skills and abilities of the participant to the identified work experience employers.

Providing the participant with an opportunity to meet with the employer and to gain information about the employer, the work experience placement, and specific job duties, assisting participants to make an informed decision about proceeding with employment negotiations.

Negotiating with the employer the contract, job duties, hours etc, ensuring the negotiated work experience opportunity is in compliance with all required legislation e.g.

Ministry of Labour,

WSIB, and Human Rights, etc.

Ensure the employer signs the work experience contract.

Developing a Job Coaching plan for participants who will require onsite supports or where natural supports (i.e. mentor) are available and the employer requires consultation to develop an understanding of the participant's support requirements.


2. Job Coaching
Follow the Employment Action Plan and Learning Action Plan for each participant and monitor for timely documentation.

Monitor progress of each participant, addressing any barriers that affect progress.

Provide Job Coaching for work experience placements.

Provide supports needed by program participants, as identified by project staff.

Work Experience Supports:

Conducting a thorough systematic job analysis of the work experience placement as required to develop a comprehensive understanding of the position and to identify any accommodation requirements.

Creating (if not provided by the employer) a job description and ensure it is signed by both the employer and employee.

Supporting the employer to resolve job accommodation requirements, including the provision of assistive technology.

Ensuring the participant receives appropriate orientation and training by the employer including the completion of required documentation.

Providing support to the participant to learn/do the job eg. Demonstrations, checklists/task analysis.

Reducing or fading out onsite supports as the participant consistently demonstrates competency.

Providing employment counseling to the participant to address issues pertaining to job retention e.g. social skills, absenteeism, productivity, problem solving.

Meeting on a regular basis with the employer to ensure concerns are addressed in a timely manner.

Training employer personnel regarding supports on the job (natural supports).

Identifying and negotiating job carving for a participant that struggles with a specific task/activity and job coaching strategies have been exhausted.

Ensuring job safety at the work site.

Developing a follow up plan with the employee and employer to address any concerns or changes in job requirements.

Collecting Time cards from the participant when required and ensuring employer and participant signoff.

Program Development:

Actively work to increase program effectiveness and efficiency from intake to job procurement.

Actively promote Hutton House Employment Services to community businesses and referral sources.

Ensuring a work plan is developed and approved by the Coordinator or Manager.

Maintaining positive linkages with community agencies that are also providing supports to program participants.

Monitoring & Evaluation:

Ensuring that each program participant completes an evaluation at the conclusion of the work experience placement.
