    Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) is a fast-growing vibrant organization committed to the development and progress of its Band Members and Community.

    TERMS:
    Full-Time, Permanent

    This position is responsible for implementing culturally and linguistically comprehensive educational services to enhance Secwépemc education for TteS membership.

    Collaborations with institutions such as Little Fawn Nursery, School District No. 73, Thompson Rivers University and TteS Trades and Training programming is essential.
    The Following Sections 1-4 account for 95% of accountabilities/deliverables.

    Planning and Program Development:
    Directs the planning and delivery of Secwépemc language and culture resources, services, and programs for educational/academic settings.

    Plans, develops, and implements culturally stimulating and appropriate Secwépemc language and culture programs for students of all ages, from early childhood to post-secondary.

    Develops customized Secwépemc language resources for parents/guardians of students.
    Ensures sufficient resources are obtained and available for implementing language and culture programs.

    Resource Development and Teaching:
    Writes and produces new Secwepemctsín learning materials, including websites, audio, and visual resources.
    Creates caring, creative, respectful, safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for students.

    Collaboration and Community Engagement:
    Collaborates and partners with local education institutions to ensure the delivery of Secwépemc programs within the community.
    Actively advocates for Western Dialect and helps advance Secwepemctsín learning.
    Promotes the Education Department's activities and assists in fundraising activities.
    Teaches Secwepemctsín to the Education Department staff.
    Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with TteS policies, standards, and procedures.
    Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the Education Department and TteS.
    ~ Professional Certification, Education and Experience:

    Bachelor's Degree in a First Nations Language or a degree in related field with a Secwepemctsín Proficiency Certificate, or Diploma in Computing Science with a Secwepemctsín Proficiency Certificate, with preference given to those with a Master's Degree in a First Nations Language in Secwepemctsín .

    Minimum of three to five years working experience teaching Secwepemctsín, with preference given to those with elementary, secondary and post-secondary teaching experience .

    Certified Language Teacher with the Ministry of Education's Teacher Regulation Branch is an asset or willingness to obtain.
    Equivalent combination of education, training, and supervisory experience.

    This position will administer the cultural and language academics programs within the budget parameters, under the direction of the Education Manager.


    Supervision or Training Duties:
    This position may be required to supervise children's and student's safety while supervising them.

    Finally, this position will also be training, mentoring, and further developing existing education staff with speaking and using Secwepemctsín in daily activities.

    Must be high-intermediate in reading, writing and speaking Secwepemctsín. A valid BC teaching certificate or eligibility for membership with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch Certification. Member in good standing with the Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch is preferred.

    Must be able to develop relevant, authentic and accurate Secwépemc language and culture website and resources that are age specific.

    Be responsible and reliable and make positive and respectful relationships with children and Elders.
    Ability to plan, develop and manage language and culture programs.
    Knowledge of curriculum and instruction development for elementary, secondary and post-secondary education and Secwépemc language, history, and culture.
    Extensive, firsthand knowledge o f Secwépemc language, history, culture, customs, traditions, protocols, and challenges.
    Strong knowledge of provincial and federal language and culture funding programs.
    Clear understanding of teaching methodology and resource and curriculum development with a First Nations language.

    BC's Redesigned Curriculum, with particular emphasis on the inclusion of Aboriginal Worldviews & Perspectives and First Peoples Principles of Learning.

    Have and maintain a valid Class 5 or 7 BC driver's license as a condition of employment and have access to a reliable/insured vehicle.


    HOURS OF WORK:
    Normal Day shifts – 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.
