Job Overview:The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for the safe distribution of medication hospital wide.
Accountabilities:
- Process orders efficiently and accurately to ensure timely delivery of medication to all units
- Check prepared medication in carts, selfmedication dosetts and interim doses for accuracy prior to delivery to nursing units
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail are essential particularly in regard to IV admixture, compounding and prescription filling.
- In collaboration with the pharmacist, participate in medication reconciliation activities
- Compound extemporaneous pharmaceuticals and IV admixtures
- Operate the unit dose ATC machine and prepare drug carts for delivery to inpatient areas
- Prepackage non ATC pharmaceuticals as needed
- Assist clinical pharmacists in the preparation of medication for patients on the selfmedication program.
- Maintain ambulatory care patient profiles.
- Maintain nursing unit ward stock, emergency drug boxes and crash carts
- Supervise pharmacy technician students.
- Interact effectively with health care professionals and patients and work with mínimal supervision
- Maintain inventory, process returns and conduct expiry date checks

- Compliance with the safety standards of the hospital and applicable legislation
- Identification and prevention of safety issues and problems
- Taking corrective action, where possible
- Attendance at safety meetings/training/updates in accordance with the Centre's standards
- Other duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications:
- Pharmacy Technician Diploma is a requirement
- Licensed with Ontario College of Pharmacists as a Pharmacy Technician is a requirement
- 12 years of experience
- Advanced computer skills
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
- Ability to relate effectively to all levels of staff and work in a team environment
- Ability to demonstrate a customer service philosophy
- Evidence of satisfactory attendance and punctuality
- Selfmotivated and able to take initiative
- Ability to multitask and detail oriented
- Experience in a hospital setting
