1 ‐ Full Time ‐ Cardiothoracic Nurse Practitioner

Cardio Surgical Program Mgmt
The Cardiothoracic Nurse Practitioner (NP) of Cardiovascular Services, reports to the Director of the Cardiovascular,

Medicine and Renal Services, with a matrix reporting relationship for nursing practice to the Director of Nursing

Practice, will focus on the provision and coordination of health care for patients with cardiovascular related diagnoses

along with similar supporting duties for the thoracic surgery program in a variety of settings.

The individual will provide clinical and professional leadership that will help facilitate a safe and effective work

environment, embrace both efficiency and professional accountability amongst all staff members and ensure the

quality of patient care and professional standards of practice.

The Cardiothoracic NP of Cardiovascular Services will participate in interdisciplinary quality improvement initiatives

and provide clinical support to the service.

The NP will assist in conducting pre‐operative assessments, developing treatment plans, and providing

post‐procedure care and follow‐up.

The primary obligations associated with this position entail demonstrating an extensive theoretical knowledge base,

as well as an advanced level of clinical proficiency in caring for cardiovascular and thoracic patients. This includes

gathering and interpreting data regarding a patient's health, determining a medical diagnosis, and addressing

intricate responses of individuals and families to actual or potential issues.

The Cardiothoracic NP role necessitates assuming a leadership position, performing quality improvement and

administrative duties, participating in policy and procedure development, and engaging in research activities. The

position also mandates delivering, coordinating, and participating in education and professional development

activities and programs, engaging in activities to further develop and strengthen the profession, serving as a

resource and consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community, and providing assistance to

hospitals and agencies. Other duties that align with the job classification may also be required.

The Cardiothoracic NP of Cardiovascular Services will base their decisions on the mission, vision and values of

Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center (the Hospital), the principals of the Patient and Family Center Care

(PFCC), interprofessional collaboration, the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and Canadian Nurses Association

Standards of Practice, and the Hospital's policies, procedures and standards.


EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse in the extended class with the CNO
  • Membership with Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) or Nurse Practitioners Association of Ontario
(NPAO) is required

  • Minimum 5 years experience in an acute care setting preferably in cardiology, stroke and vascular care
  • Minimum of 3 years recent Nurse Practitioner experience during the last 5 years, cardiovascular focus preferred
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
  • Successful completion of graduate studies
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
  • High level of self‐initiative and direction
  • Ability to work effectively individually and within a team setting
  • Knowledge of practice standards and guiding principles to foster professional practice and accountability
  • Analytical skills in order to monitor, assess and implement programs and address operational needs and ensure
fiscal sustainability

  • Interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence to interact effectively with staff, patients, family supports and
community partners

  • Leadership and teamwork skills to support, coach, direct, mentor and teach activities to clinical staff and to promote
positive staff relations


Salary Range:
$63.310 to 68.680
