    How You Will Make an Impact


  • Through responsible leadership and effective role modelling, the Personal Support Worker is responsible for the demonstration of the Mission, Vision and Values at work at Good Shepherd Non-Profit Homes.
  • To provide a work ethic in leadership and role modelling of behaviors that demonstrates the Mission, Vision and Values of Good Shepherd Non-Profit Homes
  • To provide service in a dignified, culturally competent and respectful manner that reflects the charism of Good Shepherd Non-Profit Homes and which reflects an integrated anti-racism/anti-oppression framework
  • To assist clients with routine activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IDLs) according to program policies and practices and within scope of Practice
  • To provide services to clients with any bathing or grooming activities, assessment and management of skin care, bowel and bladder care within the PSW's scope of training
  • Referral to Foot Care programming as required
  • Encourage clients to use all required assistive aids, mobility aids including walkers and canes
  • Encourage clients to use hearing aids, glasses, Lifeline necklaces/bracelets and other aids being used
  • Supporting clients while attending external appointments
  • Light housekeeping tasks and other instrumental activities of daily living including Going to store for small grocery needs, providing laundry service, washing, drying, folding and putting away of laundry, hand washing of delicate items, tidying of bedroom and bathroom, changing bed linens, meal prep
  • Assessing and reporting any hazards or safety concerns to Program manager or designate

    • Personal Support Workers (PSWs) may be assigned other responsibilities and duties as required. PSWs may be requested to back-fill/provide coverage as needed, for day shifts, evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays. PSWs may be called in to do emergency coverage. The PSWs will be given a planned, monthly schedule, but flexibility is necessary to meet client needs.


    What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Diploma or Certificate in related field (e.g. Personal Support Worker Certificate) in good standing from an approved and recognized institution
  • Demonstrate flexible in availability, duties and be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Current CPR and First Aid certificate is required
  • Willing to work in an environment that may have exposures to unsanitary conditions (smoke, biohazard materials etc.)
  • Experience working people living with mental health and or addictions issues
  • Ability to document care and resident needs/preferences
  • Good judgement, problem-solving, conflict resolution and assessment skills
  • Ability to work within an anti-oppressive framework
  • Valid driver's license and clear drivers abstract is required
  • The ability to speak French and/or other languages in addition to English is a definite asset
