Position Description:


As a member of the Infection Prevention and Control team, the Infection Control Practitioner plans, implements and evaluates Infection Prevention and Control functions at SickKids.

The Practitioner will work with all disciplines to promote a safe environment for patients, families, employees and visitors to the hospital.

Primary functions will include education, consultation, surveillance, investigation, and the development of policies and procedures directed to the prevention and control of infection in a complex health care environment.


Here's What You'll Get To Do

  • Collaborate with the health care team to develop infection prevention and control strategies and programs that are both evidence informed and consistent with models of care at SickKids
  • Represent the hospital in consultation/discussion with the public as well as external institutions/agencies with respect to Infection Prevention and Control issues
  • Contribute to the knowledge in the field through participation in research activities, presentation, publication and active involvement with related professional associations

Here's What You'll Need

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or related field or evidence of working toward a degree
  • Registration as a Registered Nurse, Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist or a Registered Respiratory Therapist in good standing
  • Completion of an entry level Infection Control program is an asset and previous Infection Control experience and certification (CIC) is preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of working experience in a health care institution (experience in a paediatric setting preferred)
  • Demonstrated leadership with excellent skills in communication, diplomacy, problem solving, critical thinking, reflection, and teamwork
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement
