This opportunity is designated as a Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations position and will run from May 25, 2023 to September 1, 2023
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning for and delivery of creative theme oriented, heritage based handson Museum Summer Camp programs.
- Provide direct care, safety, and supervision of children, as well as the enjoyment of all participants.
- Lead before and after camp activities.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for camp participants.
- Day to day coordination of camp activities, including preparation, setup, and clean
- Adhere to Department prescribed policies and procedures.
- Support and promote the HIGH FIVE "Principles of Healthy Child Development" (PHCD).
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a postsecondary program in History, Museum Studies, Education and/or Early Childhood education or a related discipline.
- Experience supervising groups of children in a camp and/or educational setting.
- Ability to work both independently and to be proactive in a team environment.
- Responsible, hardworking, enthusiastic and dynamic.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational, planning and leadership skills.
- Experience and knowledge of recreation, education, arts and/or crafts would be an asset.
- Current first aid certification and CPR C and AED is required.
- Previous leadership experience would be beneficial.
- HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) Certification is a requirement.
- All applicants must provide confirmation of fulltime student status in current academic year and/or acceptance into fulltime studies the following September.
_In order to be eligible for this position, applicants must also meet Young Canada Works funding eligibility_:
- Must be between 18 and 25 years of age
- Have been registered as a fulltime student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a fulltime basis in the next academic year
- Are Canadian citizens or permanent residents or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Act (foreign students are not eligible)
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
- Willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
- Not have another fulltime job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW
