Requirements:


THE ROLE:


Under the supervision of the Controller, the Credit Manager is responsible for establishing/maintaining credit policy /procedures and administering all credit operations in a manner that facilitates the sale of goods, stimulates cash flow, and safeguards company accounts receivable.

This includes overseeing the direct planning, organization, control, and evaluation of the activities and operations of the Credit department, related target setting, and compliance for all of John Brooks.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


Essential:


  • Manages the Credit, Collection, and Cash Application functions in a timely, efficient, and amicable manner.
  • Investigates new accounts for creditworthiness through the evaluations of financial statements, trade references, credit reports, etc.
  • Establishes credit limits/guidelines for all customers. Reviews and reevaluates existing accounts for continued creditworthiness.
  • Implements appropriate action to collect delinquent accounts, including legal suits, 3rd party collections, shipment holding, etc., as required.
  • Reviews doubtful accounts to determine if accounts are uncollectible and need to be written off.
  • Reviews and updates credit policy in consultation with senior executives, as required.
  • Arranges security instruments, Letters of Credit, Guarantees, and UCC filings.
  • Represents John Brooks at creditors' meeting re: bankruptcy and restructuring and industry and credit association meetings.
  • Manges credit reporting contracts with D&B,
  • Manages job performance, training, mentoring, and coaching of credit/accounts receivable personnel.
  • Keeps current on US and Canadian credit, collection, and bankruptcy laws.
  • Keeps up to date on US and Canadian tax policies and rates.
  • Manages and enforces delegation of authority matrix and ensures strong internal control related to credit and credit memos.
  • Shares expertise and support to team members to foster positive team dynamics.
  • Sets professional development goals and works towards fulfillment; attends all required training.

Administrative and General Duties:


  • Maintains complete knowledge of and complies with company and departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned or required.

Leadership and Management Responsibilities:


  • Leads the Credit department; tracks and measures collection goals, provides instruction and direction on tasks, trains employees on new responsibilities, coaches and motivates employees to perform their duties to the best of their abilities, and regularly evaluates the work of employees.
  • Provides daytoday operational direction, support, and guidance to the Credit department. Identifies any problems and determines effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Addresses, manages, and resolves all internal/external inquiries/requests related to credit operations, staff matters, and other interdepartmental issues, etc. Provides suggestions/feedback, as needed.
  • Leads and oversees the development and implementation of the annual budget DSO targets.
  • Manages the credit operations, accounts receivable, writeoffs, and reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:


  • University Degree in a related field such as Commerce, Business administration, or Accounting.
  • Certified Credit Professional (CPP) designation.
  • A minimum of 79 years of related experience in a senior credit position ideally in the distribution or manufacturing sector.
  • Solid understanding of software, taxes, laws, regulations, and requirements related to credit systems and business processes.
  • Comprehensive technical and functional understanding of all credit and collection processes.
