The two New Brunswick mills produce specialty pulp products (dissolving grade pulp) for the group's têxtile industry. The mill in Ontario produces high-grade NBSK pulp. The position is located in Nackawic, New Brunswick.

Operations Specialist - Chemical Plant

Role Overview


Reporting to the Chemical Plant Superintendent, the Operations Specialist is responsible for efficient operation of the Chemical Plant area and ensuring all services are in compliance with Corporate Principles and Guidelines, and applicable legislation.

The Operations Specialist will manage the daily operation of the Chemical Division while meeting safety, environment, quality, training, and cost objectives.


Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate daily production and maintenance activities within the department in conjunction with the Maintenance Supervisor/Planner.
  • Coordinate chemical loading and quality control to ensure sales commitments are met on a timely basis.
  • Troubleshoot process control issues in conjunction with Chemical Division management team.
  • Oversee the Operation's training program. Provide leadership to the hourly Trainer and determine the training needs within the Chemical Division. Coordinate the appropriate sessions to meet the training requirements.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with applicable SHE legislation, corporate policies, procedures & guidelines.
  • Support the Business Excellence approach to promote employee awareness, motivation and participation.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities in the department.
  • Keep up to date with new technology and management methods.
  • Ensure all employees in the department demonstrate maximum effectiveness in role and are developed for potential future advancement.
  • Inform Superintendent Chemical Division of potential major production, environmental and quality problems, take immediate corrective action as required, and propose longer term solutions.
  • Manage the needed supply of raw materials for the area.
  • Assist Maintenance Planner-Supervisor in prioritizing department shuts.
  • Provide vacation relief for the Superintendent
  • Chemical Division.

Qualifications:


  • Preference given to a Chemical Engineering graduate but will consider those with a Diploma in Chemical Technology or a Science Degree who have experience in a Chemical Plant.
  • Proven track record in a Chemical, Chloralkali, Chlorate or Manufacturing Plant with 35 years relevant experience in a similar role.
  • A selfstarter with a high degree of motivation, initiative and problemsolving ability
  • Must be able to lead and manage others to ensure positive business results
  • Must exhibit a high degree of communication skills
  • Must be a big picture thinker
  • Experience working in a unionized environment would be considered an asset
