Job Overview:


Responsibilities:


  • Provide exceptional customer service to our customers, brokers and preferred partners
  • Handle single and multiparty, intermediate complexity level Commercial General Liability and Personal Liability Claims
  • Interpret policy wordings, determine claim coverage and collaborate with Underwriting as required
  • Ensure early and appropriate liability investigation by proactively gathering facts from various sources
  • Knowledge of Regulations such as Occupier Liability Act, Negligence Act, Insurance Act, Condominium Act and others
  • Request and evaluate relevant information from sources such as claimants, plaintiff counsel, defence counsel, third party adjusters, independent adjusters, experts, appraisers, contractors, in order to assess exposure, quantify the loss and achieve a fair and reasonable claim resolution
  • Through proactive claims handling, ensure early exposure identification and establishment of reserves
  • Negotiate settlement with claimants, lawyers and other insurers by establishing proactive negotiation strategy
  • Ensure detailed and timely claim documentation based on company standards and policies within the claims system
  • Maintain file litigation strategy and collaborate with legal partners
  • Attend mediations, court proceedings and other dispute resolution processes, as required
  • Contribute to overall Casualty Claims initiatives and implementation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:


  • Experience required in handling Commercial General Liability and Personal Liability Claims, specific to Ontario:



  • Casualty Claims Representative

  • Intermediate: Minimum of 2+ years of progressive Casualty claims handling experience, with knowledge of Commercial General Liability and Personal Liability Claims

- Senior
: Minimum of 5 years of progressive Casualty claims handling experience, with advanced knowledge of Commercial General Liability and Personal Liability Claims

  • Obtained or working toward Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) Designation and a desire to continue relevant industry education (FCIP, CRM, etc.)
  • College/University degree preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills including patience, empathy and concern for our customers along with the ability to understand customer needs while meeting established quality service standards
  • Proven knowledge of coverage wordings, policy interpretation, case law, legislation, and insurance regulations
  • Expert investigative, analytical and problemsolving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed analysis of information, and to select and implement best solutions in a timely manner
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Excellent knowledge of medical and legal terminology
  • Knowledge of Directors and Officers claims handling and Commercial Group Accounts/Programs claims handling is an asset but not required
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Highly proficient time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work in a fast paced and continuous improvement environment
