Work with the Arts & Culture Services section - City Cultural Events to develop, implement and coordinate divisional volunteer based programs, specifically in Arts & Cultural Services.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Participates in the review and formulation of policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements.
  • Develops and maintains stakeholder and volunteer databases.
  • Plans, designs and delivers volunteer activities.
  • Participates in the recruitment, screening, selection, training and coaching of program volunteers.
  • Implements and supports various volunteer program standards, practices and guidelines.
  • Coordinates administrative functions to support the volunteer program and stakeholder engagement.
  • Liaises with volunteers, clients, vendors, project teams, project managers and senior management and the public.
  • Consults with divisional staff to develop program messaging and promotional material.
  • Develops volunteer training curriculum and materials. i.e. volunteer hand book, information log sheets
  • Develops program website content information.
  • Organizes volunteer recognition program and events.
  • Provides input into budget for program.
  • Coordinates, leads and evaluates current volunteer programs.
  • Prepares reports and makes recommendations.
  • Attends and/or facilitates local outreach events.
  • Provides support to volunteers and relays current policy/program information/updates.
  • Ensures that service delivery meets expectations.
  • Develops partnership with related organizations and internal/external volunteer agencies and programs.

  • 1. Considerable experience in volunteer management for large scale art and cultural events, which includes evaluating potential volunteer applicants, coordinating volunteer activities, developing a climate of readiness for volunteers, and working with volunteer and nongovernmental organizations.
  • 2. Extensive experience in developing, planning, monitoring and administering volunteer programs and services including conducting program needs assessments, etc.
  • 3. Considerable experience in the planning and delivery of special events / projects and other Arts and Culture programs.
  • 4. Experience establishing new orientation and training programs for volunteers.
  • 5.
Extensive experience using Better Impact Volunteer Management Software and Microsoft Office Suite:
Word, Excel, PowerPoint.


You must also have:


  • Ability to provide work direction to staff and volunteers.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to prepare and present materials including standards and documentation to all levels of management and staff.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels of staff, volunteers, agencies, partners, arts and cultural organizations, curators, coproducers, presenters and artists in all artistic disciplines and cultural content.
  • Broad understanding of health and safety, customer service, delivery of events and dealing with the public.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work in a fastpaced environment in order to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Must have a high degree of initiative and be able to work well with mínimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, statutory holidays and weekends.
  • Must be able to report to various work locations in a timely and efficient manner.
