Job Summary
The Surveys and Mapping unit provides corporate legal survey and mapping services in support of the City's planning, development and infrastructure operations and to enable all City led construction projects.
You are responsible for conducting or co-ordinating real property research projects assigned by the City Surveyor and ensuring projects move efficiently and seamlessly from project intake to product delivery.
You also undertake complex title research assignments for the City Surveyor or Ontario Land Surveyors, and functionally supervise the work of the Title Searcher and the Surveys and Mapping Clerk. In addition, you are responsible for providing expertise, consultation and other support to managers and staff in the Unit and other departments.
Education And Experience
Completion of 3 year community college diploma in Geomatics or a related field
Minimum of 5 years of experience in legal survey research, including experience with real property rights and the Surveys and Mapping profession
*CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES*
Certification as Survey Technologist by Association of Ontario Land Surveyors is an asset
*KNOWLEDGE*
- The Ontario Land Registry Offices practices and procedures
- Geographic subdivision of land
- Provincial statutes pertaining to land registration
- POLARIS system of land registration
- Laser plotters, materials and supplies
- Laser scanning equipment and supplies
- Micrographic equipment and supplies
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

- Leadership skills
- Able to review legal searches and produce synopses
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to organize and develop procedures
- Ability to maintain a Geographical Referencing System
- Ability to search records in the Land Registry Office
- Prepares maps and sketches of land parcels
- Interprets and plots legal descriptions
- Prepares reports and summaries of chain of title
- Ability to operate an interactive graphics workstation
- Must be thorough and meticulous
- Courteous and informative manner in Land Registry Office dealings
- Demonstrates initiative and responsibility
- Effective interpersonal relationships
What You Need To Know
- Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
- You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
