POSITION SCOPE:


This is an opportunity to be part of the core team selected to build Giyak Mishkawzid Shkagmikwe (GMS) the recently formed Economic Development Corporation for Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, a First Nation whose traditional territory spans the resource rich Sudbury basin.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


Education

  • Diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Marketing, bachelor's degree in management or business, or related discipline, other related postsecondary degree or, strong relevant work experience to the role.
  • Strong working knowledge of communication principles and practices, project management preferably in a First Nations environment.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Must possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication with strong writing and editorial abilities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Suite, WordPress, Adobe InDesign, internet, Canva or other public relation tools.
  • Must possess strong project management skills.
  • Occasionally required to work flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to meet tight deadlines and execute flawlessly on projects in a fastpaced, often pressured environment and see a project through to completion.
  • Exceptional research, tracking, and organizational abilities.
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience required

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assures all reporting and information requirements of funders are met in a timely and professional manner.
  • Overall responsible for organizing and assuring the execution of projects and events
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing content for GMS newsletter, and website.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and measuring external and internal communication plans and activities.
  • Develop and implement communication materials and media content to inform Atikameksheng Anishnawbek community, Gimaa and Council, and GMSled activities, events, and initiatives.
  • Coordinate media requirements and ensure consistent communication content for community engagement sessions, workshops, meetings, and ceremonies.
  • Develop communication materials to support and promote GMS' vision and mission statements, including message development, social media content creation and media outreach.
  • Assist in the development and coordination of a communication strategy and/or policy to identify improved means of communication and effectively engage the Joint Ventures, Partners, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek membership and community.
  • Communicating with the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Finance & Administration, and the Business & Development Manager, and any other stakeholders to define the needs and objectives for a project.
  • Creating project plans that include details such as objectives, budget, timelines, funding, and personnel.
  • Attending GMS, and community events. Assist in the coordination of community engagement and training initiatives.
  • Monitoring project costs for budget adherence
  • Monitoring project deliverables and milestones to ensure ontime completion.
  • Proposing, examining, and amending project plan adjustments.
  • Generating and disseminating project documentation.
  • Evaluating projects to ensure goals have been achieved.
  • Comply with federal and provincial Privacy Acts and Laws.
  • Participate in organizational staff meetings.
  • Respond to inquiries on GMS activities and services.
  • Other duties as assigned

A. WORK SITE LOCATION


The Communications & Project Coordinator's primary work site location shall be within the GMS satellite office at 40 Larch Street, Suite 301.

All equipment required for the position is located within the building and is easily accessible by the Project & Communications Coordinator.

Travel is required for the position to attend meetings, conferences, and the work sites.
