We respect the longstanding relationships with the local Indigenous communities, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Six Nations of the Grand River.


Reporting to the Manager, Accounting Services, you will supervise and support the practices related to accounts payable, school generated funds and school budgets in order to meet the demands for accountability and productivity.

Coordination of all payments to vendors including ensuring the payments are authorized and processed on a timely basis, liaise with vendors, school and department staff.

Ensures all expenses are reported accurately and follow International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) And Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS). Responsible for training of school/department staff on Financial Information System and School Generated Funds Software.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise the Accounts Payable staff to ensure payment of vendor invoices, expense forms and financial obligations are met in an efficient and timely manner. Ensure compliance with Board policies, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) as related to payments. Payments range from employee expense reimbursements to multi-million dollar expenses for construction. Must be knowledgeable in construction accounting (including holdbacks; legislative requirements for issuing payments to contractors).
  • Review and update payment processing procedures and use technology to make the process more efficient.
  • Respond to queries from school staff, department staff and persons external to the Board, including audit questions from the Board's external and regional auditors.
  • Coordinate support and training to enable school administrative staff to maintain appropriate controls and record keeping for school resources, operational budgets and school generated funds.
  • Train and evaluate employees to enhance their performance, development, and abilities. Address performance issues and make recommendations for personnel actions; Train school and department staff in Board policies and procedures as needed. Create training materials.
  • Identify and implement process efficiencies.
  • Financial Analysis related to payables, prepaids, expense clearing accounts, school 65 accounts and school selfop programs.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree or College diploma in Business Administration, Commerce, Accounting.
  • Enrolment in Canadian Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) is an asset
  • 3 years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in the public sector
  • Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) accounting standards and Ministry of Education compliance requirements.
  • Comprehensive expertise with computerized financial systems and spreadsheet software.
  • Demonstrate personal initiative, sound judgement, strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to function effectively and collaboratively with various employee groups and external contacts
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with experience in the effective management of multiple projects and demonstrated ability to successfully complete tasks and meet department and board goals aligned to the multiyear strategic plan
  • Knowledge of the board policies and procedures
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others
  • Some requirement to work evening hours when required based on system needs.
