Position Summary


Reporting to the Vice President of Risk Management, the National Risk, Insurance, and Claims Manager should have proven experience in supporting organizational goals by providing constructive, practical, and holistic risk management insight.

This includes bringing forward a more centralized, strategic, and dynamic approach within risk controls and reporting, insurance portfolio administration, and claims reporting and resolutions on behalf of clients, as well as additional internal and external stakeholders.

What you'll do

  • Oversight of the risk management portfolio and administration of Canada Cartage's vast scope of both insurance programs.
  • Monitor, document, and facilitate annual insurance renewals, in advance of identified timelines, and across a large portfolio of coverages.
  • Be actively engaged in the annual insurance policy extension and renewal process, including fostering collaboration with various casualty and excess casualty underwriters and insurance brokers.
  • Overseeing the annual and adhoc distribution of Certificates of Insurance to external and internal parties.
  • Accountable for direct leadership of the Insurance and Claims Department, implementing insurancerelated skillsets and tools, and promoting crosstraining and insurance industry education and experience throughout.
  • Mentoring and coaching direct reports and providing exceptional leadership and support to staff as well as internal departments.
  • Reviewing, improving and standardizing existing claimshandling protocols.
  • Preparing and analyzing key metrics related to claims costs and frequency
  • Report on, and make practical recommendations on preventative measures to senior management and other staff, as required, in order to prevent liability losses.
  • Identify potential cost recovery sources relating to thirdparties and implemented measures to identify and recover costs.
  • Approve settlements and provide instructions to both independent adjusting firms and internal staff members, so as to promote outofcourt resolutions.
  • Legal analysis of longtail litigation claims and collaboration with insurers and defence council.
  • Investigate and collect evidence for the defence of claims made against Canada Cartage, and act as key liaison throughout the litigation process.
  • Review of contractual agreements, in regard to organizational real estate, existing and future client agreements, and any contractual verbiage relating to Transportation and Warehousing Service Agreements.
  • Other assigned duties, as required

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's degree or completion of postsecondary program specific to insurance and risk management.
  • Must have a minimum five (5) years' related experience (risk management, insurance carrier, broker), with preference for experience in the transportation sector.
  • Industry relevant certifications, including CIP and/or CRM, completed or inprogress.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills (quantitative and qualitative)
  • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills.
