We are looking for an Executive Underwriter - Marine. This role will be hybrid, and based in our Toronto, Ontario, Canada office.


Your Team
AGCS Canada has been a strong player in the insurance market for many years. Today, we have a rowing workforce - more than 125 people strong - and an expanding book of business.

Through our three offices in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal we are a trusted industrial insurer for many of the major companies in Canada, backed by the strong capital and capacity you would expect from the Allianz Group.


Our marine insurance solutions include risk control program development and implementation, crew and operator safety training, and vessel, condition, and loss-prevention surveys.

We work with a wide range of marine clients from across the globe, from logistics and multimodal transport operators to marina operators, vessel charters and shipbuilders.


Our Ocean/Cargo, Transportation, and Construction Insurance solutions cover over 100 classes of business, covering all aspects of moving or movable property.

Whether it's a building under construction or a shipment of an original Picasso, our inland marine insurance underwriters provide flexible and creative solutions for the most challenging of inland marine exposures.


The Impact You Will Have


Reporting to the Head of Marine Canada, this position will take prime responsibility for underwriting profitable new and renewal business to meet the Marine line of business targets in accordance with underwriting guidelines and underwriting authority.

In addition, negotiate pricing, and terms and conditions, own accounts/clients, while developing and maintaining strong relationships with producers and clients in partnership with Market Management.


Some of your specific responsibilities could include:

  • Underwriting new and renewable accounts to meet top and bottom-line targets (local and/or regional). Negotiating participation, pricing and terms and conditions with brokers.
  • Underwriting in line with LoB governance framework e.g., Underwriting authorities, global MSU, Underwriting Guidelines, Rules and Principles while ensuring utilization of global pricing tools.
  • Ensuring accurate policy documentation issued to broker or broker has issued documentation.
  • Supporting development and execution of regional Underwriting strategy.
  • Training, developing, and coaching less experienced staff.
  • Proactively support acquisition of new business, retention of existing business, and proactively drive involvement of functional areas in Underwriting process, including MMC, ARC, Claims, Operations, Risk Managers, and other relevant stakeholders.

What You'll Bring to the Role

We'd like to find someone with a minimum 7 years' proven track record in underwriting profitable business (ocean/cargo, transportation, and construction), demonstrable, established relationships with brokers at the peer group level and established within the market.

A good understanding of regional/location Insurance markets and competitor landscape with preferably a bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management or Business Administration.

Completion of a professional insurance qualification.
