Weldco Heavy Industries (WHI) is a large steel fabrication and repair facility located in the Fort McKay Caribou Energy Park.

Strategically positioned in the heart of Alberta's Oil Sands, WHI is able to effectively meet the requirements for large steel repair, assembly and refurbishment in the industry.

Reporting to the General Manager, the
Operations Manager will provide leadership and direction for the operations team of the WHI, Fort McKay facility.

The operations manager will be responsible for ensuring a safe, efficient, and profitable operation while achieving the goals and objectives of the business plan, using the organization's vision and mission statements to guide and measure progress.


Responsibilities, Duties and Tasks:

Your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Safety_**- Actively participate in achievement of the corporate target of 0% lost time accidents through continued development of the Safety Program and the necessary equipment and systems to deliver the program.
  • Manage, monitor, and administer the company's Safety Program in accordance with legislation, program goals and corporate guidelines.
  • Comply with all safety rules and practices as set by Occupational Health and Safety, WHI and any and all other relevant safety regulations and requirements.

  • Operations_**- Overseeing the daily operations of WHI
  • Provide reports on a timely basis on the progress of the operations measured against the specific goals and objectives of the business plan.
  • Ensure the key objectives of revenue, margin and expenses are controlled within the guidelines of the approved plans and budgets.
  • Ensure that the operations meet the branch, corporate and/or legislative requirements regarding safety, environment, Labour and employment standards.
  • Support Quality Assurance Program ensuring that production and engineering are compliant.
  • Ensure safety standards, regulations and proper methods and equipment for injury and accident prevention are secured and exercised as daily routine.
  • Ensure emergency preparedness plans and procedures, workplace investigations, WCB claims management, data collection and record keeping are legally compliant, timely and appropriate for the operations and corporation.
  • Embedded safety as #1 in the culture of WHI.
  • Lead by example.

  • Sales and Marketing_**- In conjunction with the Sales and Service Manager, support the marketing, advertising, promotions, and sales organization planning.
  • Provide direction to the WHI sales group, taking an active role in customer relationship building, customer service and market growth opportunities.
  • Promote the interests and relationships of WHI with our customers, suppliers, and the business community.

  • Finance_**- Assist and understand accepted fundamental accounting practices as they relate to the performance of the operations.
  • Use financial reports to monitor operations progress and performance.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual business plan and provide annual budgets for WHI operations.

Human Resource Management_:


  • Collaborate on human resources planning in conjunction with the HR team to ensure there are adequate resources available to attain company objectives.
  • Provide ongoing feedback and support to employees creating positive group dynamics.
  • Support and participate in the performance management process including recruitment, selection, appraisal, discipline, and termination of employees.
  • Review and/or recommend employee compensation and status change actions.
  • Actively participate in succession planning and management processes.
  • Understand, respect and ensure employee compliance with departmental, corporate and government regulated policies and procedures.

Qualifications:


Note:
_An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered._**
_ Education_

  • Postsecondary education in business, engineering, or an applicable trade
  • Leadership training

_ Experience_

  • 10+ Years in leadership role
  • Experience
    _ _in the Mining refurbishment service
  • Strong understanding of unionized agreements.
  • CBA negotiation experience.

_ Knowledge_

  • Knowledge of safety practices and applicable OH&S legislation
  • Indepth knowledge of manufacturing
  • Good understanding of human resources management

  • Leadership skills to guide and motivate employees.
