    Position Details

    The Caretaking Department requires the services of a Full-time Caretaker II to start work in May 2024. Reporting to the Manager, Caretaking Services, this position is responsible for janitorial work.

    Janitorial work includes but not limited to floor scrubbing, carpet cleaning, floor refinishing, general cleaning, and recycling. This position will assist with the completion of minor maintenance projects, operating cleaning equipment (i.e. lifts, polishers, auto-scrubbers, burnishers, back vacuum, and other cleaning equipment). This position is responsible to fully clean residence apartments for move out/move in as required. This full-time Caretaker II will need to meet the Caretaking Expectations, follow standard operating procedures, and safe work practices. This position works 37.5 hours per week minimum.
    HOURS OF WORK: Early mornings subject to shift change notice. The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification review for Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) positions. As such, the classification level currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project. Position Qualifications The successful candidate will have a high school diploma and at least 12 months of related work experience.

    We are looking for high energy, goal orientated individuals who can demonstrate the following skills and abilities:
  • Effective English reading, verbal, and written communication skills at the appropriate level for the position.
  • Reliable, positive, and detail oriented, with excellent time management skills.
  • Experience with heavy duty cleaning procedures and commercial cleaning equipment.
  • Current WHMIS certification is an asset.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work (i.e. including bending, twisting, climbing stairs, pushing, and pulling, regular lifting of 10 kg and occasional lifting of 25 kg) in a safe and efficient manner.
  • A proven ability to maintain effective working relationships and provide quality customer service.
  • Standard first aid and CPR certification is desired.
  • Some experience with supervising would be considered an asset.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Driver's Abstract
  • The final candidate will be required to undergo background checks including a Criminal Reference Check and a Driver's Abstract Check. A valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver's License with no more than 6 demerits and submission of a motor vehicle record (driver abstract) dated within 3 months of the posting close is required.

    All applicants must supply a minimum of 3 work related references. Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $3, $3,433.00 monthly Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $3, $3,729.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 3)
