About the Department of Business and Retail Services:
The Cougars Campus Store operates as a department within Business and Retail Services.

It operates as a retail center to provide academic course materials, services and products to students in support of the mission and financial goals of the university.


About the Role:

The Retail Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day front-of-house (FOH) retail operations of the Cougars Campus Store (CCS). The incumbent is responsible for assisting with staff hiring, scheduling, supervision, and delegation.

This position is the organizational expert on the Point-of Sale (POS) system including programming, inventory and sales tracking, and staff training.

This position is also responsible for supporting procedural development to meet operational outcomes related to customer service, loss prevention, and physical layout.

This person primarily works behind the service counter and on the service floor.

(1) POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibility 1 (50%): Staff Supervision

  • Resolves customer complaints that can't be resolved by frontline staff;
  • Trains and develops staff to ensure efficient operation of the Campus Store;
  • Ensures staff have access and understand all policies and procedures that impact their specific area(s) of responsibility;
  • Provides delegation of daily tasks to the FOH team and ensures timely followup on task completion;
  • Ensures all positions within their functional area have at minimum two people trained for appropriate backup;
  • Scheduling and zoning all staff to meet the operational needs of the Campus Store; and
  • Provides backup to the Back of House Supervisor in the case of leaves or absences
Responsibility 2 (30%) Retail Operations

  • Update lossprevention procedures to minimize theft and fraud;
  • Takes the lead in ongoing development of and execution of the Campus Store Customer Experience Model and trains and coaches FOH team to meet expectations;
  • Supports physical space planning and design to meet the business cycle;
  • Works with the Purchasing Supervisor and Merchandiser to ensure the floor space is restocked and presentable at all times;
  • Support all retail areas when required depending on business volumes, which includes frontline operations; and
Responsibility 3 (10%) Financial Accountability - Reporting and Controls

  • Responsible for tracking daily financial reconciliations for FOH transactions including refunds, voids, and discounts;
  • Works with the Campus Store Manager to establish daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly sales and KPI goals based on the budget of the business unit.
  • Monitors inventory discrepancies as identified by the Inventory Control Supervisor;
  • Responsible for working with the Campus Store Manager to keep scheduling of casuals within the budgetary requirements; and
  • Participates in physical inventory count in coordination with the Inventory Control Supervisor as outlined in the Knowledge of the Business (KNOB) document as approved by the Director of Business and Retail Services.
Responsibility 4 (10%): Projects & Committees

  • Works on special projects as requested by the Campus Store Manager;
  • Serves on relevant University committees and project teams as determined by the Campus Store Manager; and
  • Participates in industry associations as required to stay on top of industry trends;
Other duties as required.


Extended hours during peak periods (back-to-school rush, inventory, Convocation etc.) will be required, including working some evenings and weekends as business requires.


Minimum experience and/or training required:

  • Two-Year Diploma from a University or Equivalent or Journeyman Ticket
  • 35 years Front of House retail supervision experience
