The Media Specialist is a member of the UBC Sauder Learning Services team and provides intermediate level production and post production services to all clients within UBC Sauder as requested.
The incumbent produces high quality creative media assets and solutions for new or existing campus-wide initiatives, and helps in the development of digital media assets for use across all client stakeholder environments (funded and cost recovery).
The Media Specialist is expected to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.Organizational Status
Reports to the Production Manager, Academic Media Support. Works closely and collaborates with other members of the UBC Sauder Learning Services team. Provides production and post production services to all clients within UBC Sauder.
Work Performed
- Develops and produces creative media assets based on the requirements and direction from the Production Manager, Academic Media Support.
- Participates in postproduction activities, including but not limited to transcoding media, basic video editing, music research, outputting media, etc.
- On direction from more senior team members, packages inhouse, custom, digital assets for production.
- Conducts testing on customized digital assets to ensure they meet specifications and makes suggestions to resolve issues.
- Coordinates and schedules the booking of studio space, set up of studio shoots, production equipment as well as all related resources and prepares related documents.
- Sets up and tears down equipment and the set both in studio and on location. Performs camera operation and other related tasks.
- Maintains business documents such as workflow and instructional manuals to ensure knowledge transfer amongst the team.
- Coordinates collection and dropoff of administrative resources as well as any additional equipment rented on a project basis. Inspects all incoming equipment from project for proper functionality and wear and tear, managing overall equipment repair and inventory records.
- Triages client requests as appropriate to the other member of the Learning Services team.
- Performs other duties as required.
Errors in judgment, poor planning or failure to act decisively could have a detrimental effect on the delivery and consumption of digital media resources by clients.
Unreliable systems or poor project management could lead to missed contractual obligations for performance and availability which would damage the reputation of UBC Sauder.
This could adversely impact the University community, including the stakeholders involved, which would result in possible lost productivity, funding and revenue.

Works under general supervision; receives detailed instructions on the assignment of new duties and thereafter only on new or unusual problems.

Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
