Manager, Physician Assistant Studies:


The Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) program is a new 2-year professional graduate program in the College of Medicine.

This program will launch its first cohort in Fall 2025, with 20 students.

The first year focuses on clinical science primarily in a classroom setting, while the second year is primarily composed of clinical placements.

The Manager, MPAS will be essential to the launch of this new program, and this position will be expected to work collaboratively with the MPAS Academic Director, the College of Medicine, and Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies to design and implement this program.


Primary Purpose:

The MPAS Manager will provide support and leadership for the planning and establishment of the MPAS program.

Once established, the manager will ensure effective and efficient day-to-day operations in the Physician Assistant Studies office that are aligned with the MPAS policies and strategy.

The Manager, MPAS will provide effective, high-level support for the MPAS planning processes, strategic priorities, special projects and accreditation, in collaboration with the Academic Director, MPAS and the College of Medicine (CoM) project management team.

The MPAS Manager is responsible for providing direction, oversight and support for human resources, information technology/systems, facilities management, data management and financial management in the MPAS office.

The manager is in direct and constant collaboration with all MPAS team members and stakeholders and it will be essential to maintain positive working relationships with these groups.


Nature of Work:


Reporting to the Academic Director, MPAS, the position will lead and support the development and implementation of the MPAS graduate program, program strategic planning processes, and implementation of strategic directions.

This work will be done in collaboration with the CoM project management team.

The incumbent will manage multiple projects with competing timelines to bring this new program to USask in a fast-paced, complex environment.

From time-to-time travel may be required. The scope of the work is broad with a significant institutional impact.


Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

Program design, implementation and strategic planning

  • Leads, manages, and supports assigned projects with the program, working groups, committees, colleges and schools, and key stakeholders to facilitate progress toward the launch of the MPAS program, including development work on the curriculum, clinical placement, and simulation requirements.
  • Create and implement long and shortterm strategies to address the needs and responsibilities of MPAS, to address current and emerging challenges, and to enhance curriculum delivery, service and support to physician assistant students and adhere to accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with the staff of the college and other administrative and academic units to identify and implement the program management initiatives required to strategically meet the objectives of the program.
  • Lead, advise, consult and make recommendations to the Academic Director related to all aspects of graduate program management, including but not limited to: admissions, program requirements, registration, leaves of absence, graduation / convocation, academic and nonacademic misconduct, policy exceptions, and student rights.
Program operations

  • Oversee and direct the work of MPAS operations staff (as well as other teams and special project hires as needed), and conduct ongoing recruitment, training, development activities with direct reports and other MPAS staff.
  • Budget development and management in alignment with broader College of Medicine strategies.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology groups on campus to maintain and improve student systems, and to maintain and improve online information and resources for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Support continuous improvement within the college.
  • Develop and maintain a set of internal standard operating procedures (SOP) that document agreed work flow processes and activities to support the program.
  • Act as a resource to individual students as necessary to discuss concerns and provide support; deal with these concerns by directing students to relevant policy, appropriate support channels, and through formal processes as needed.
***Program liaison

  • Represent MPAS on committees and strategy teams for highlevel special projects and ongoing college initiatives as appropriate.
  • Keep current with practices and issues in program management through professional networks at other Canadian Universities with regards to their Physician Assistant program.
