    The Opportunity

    The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our The Government/Indigenous Relations and Environment branch as a Term Municipal Energy Specialist.

    Reporting to the Manager, Environment, the Specialist is responsible for the overall energy efficiency performance of City owned facilities. This position will serve as an internal expert of energy efficiency, energy generation, energy modeling and GHG reduction initiatives.

    This position will oversee the implementation of corporate initiatives related to energy efficiency and generation as well as develop and implement long term plans related to City fleet electric vehicle strategy. The Specialist will provide project management and leadership to corporate projects related to energy management and work with staff across the organization.

    The individual we seek is an excellent verbal and written communicator, who possesses great analytical, problem solving and organizational skills. Exceptional interpersonal, relationship management, customer service skills are also essential for success in this role.

    Qualifications


    •Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a closely related field with a technical focus on climate change and/or energy management, working with concepts of energy efficiency, renewable energy, environmental management systems, greenhouse gas inventory, climate change initiatives or similar area.

    • A minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical, electrical, chemical, commercial, industrial, energy efficiency, project management (with an energy focus), facility engineering or a related field.

    •Experience with systems, and processes and/or energy engineering principles, methods, and techniques required.

    •Experience with the following systems is desired: HVAC, lighting, chillers and refrigeration, motors, variable frequency drives, compressed air, building envelope, renewable energy, and process equipment.

    •Experience with energy benchmarking and energy modeling software considered an asset (e.g., RETScreen, EnergyStar Portfolio Manager)

    •Any or a combination of the following credentials will be considered an asset: Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license, Certified Energy Manager/Auditor (CEM/CEA), Certified Practitioner in Energy Management Systems (CP EnMS) or other similar certification, and willingness to pursue additional certifications and training.

    •LEED AP O+M or alternative accreditation is considered an asset.

    Hours of Work

    We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 with a regular day off [RDO] every two weeks).

    Hybrid Remote Work – This position may be eligible to apply for Hybrid Remote Work at the completion of three (3) months. Hybrid Remote Work means the majority of worktime (51+%) will be completed in the designated workspace, and the remainder may be worked remotely. Applicants must reside in Alberta or be able to relocate to Alberta.

    Compensation

    $3, $ biweekly ($81,116 to $99,835 per annum). In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive benefit package.

    Term

    April 2024 to approximately October 2024. This opportunity is due to a leave and could be for a shorter or longer duration than noted.
