Description

The Position

  • Assisting in delivering client care under a Registered Nurse's or other designated functional direction and in cooperation with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Providing personal care to clients while following established care plans. This may include bathing, grooming, dressing, assisting with meals and oral hygiene and performing nursing care duties as applicable.
  • Using techniques that enable the client/resident to utilize their maximum ability while making personal choices.
  • Observing and monitoring clients' progress, symptoms and behavioural changes and reporting/recording significant observations.
  • Administering medications to clients as prescribed by a physician.
  • Utilizing mechanical aides such as lifts, specialty beds and wheelchairs and assisting with lifting and/or transferring clients following established lifting/safety techniques.
  • Must be able to handle sensitive information in a completely confidential manner.
  • Maintain flexibility in schedule and respond to unexpected emergencies and changes in workload to fulfill responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the position, as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:


  • Grade 10 (including English 10).
  • Successful graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Eligible for BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry registration.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and proficiently both verbally and in writing.
  • Respect for, sensitivity towards, knowledge, and understanding of shishalh culture and traditions.
  • Current BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle.
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Uptodate vaccinations.
