    Public Works – Waste Management

    2 Contract Full-Time positions, Duration: 13 Months

    Compensation: Band 5 $71,698 - $89,624 per annum plus benefits

    Location and Work Mode: Hybrid. Reporting locations are at either 420 Railside Dr, or 7795 Torbram Rd,in Brampton

    Hours of Work: 35 hours of work per week

    Reporting to the Manager of CRC Operations, or the Manager of Processing and Disposal, you will be responsible for coordinating the development, implementation and maintenance of the Region's health and safety management system. You will play a key role in compiling, organizing and analyzing documentation and records needed to demonstrate the Region's compliance with safety- related legislation and best practices.

    What you will do in this role:

  • Co-ordinate the development, implementation, maintenance, and audit for the Region's health and safety management system
  • Research health and safety management systems standards, legislative requirements, best practices, and implementation strategies
  • Reviewing existing health and safety program elements, policies and procedures and identifying legislative gaps and opportunities for improvement
  • Co-ordinate the review, development, maintenance and participate in the departments Joint Occupational health and safety committee, policies, procedures, processes, and programs for regulatory compliance (eg. Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committees, First Aid, and Accident Investigation)
  • Co-ordinate, implement and maintain the section's document control program through Enterprise Information Management System (eg. EIM)
  • In collaboration with Health & Safety Associate, compiling and conducting follow up with staff responsible for health and safety within operating departments to ensure ongoing legislative compliance to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, and for audit purposes
  • Organize, compile and analyze data and prepare statistical reports
  • Create health and safety bulletins, training programs, e-learning modules, and safety talks
  • Maintain Healthy Workplace Pathways pages
  • Organize and maintain safety related databases and inventories (eg. First Aiders, Job Demands Analysis, Policy, Training and Assistive Devices)
  • Respond to inquiries related to interpretation of health and safety policies, procedures, processes and legislative requirements
  • Complete other projects or duties, as assigned
  • What the role requires:

  • A degree/diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or relevant degree/diploma with certificate in Occupational Health & Safety
  • Minimum of 3 years of health & safety management system experience or comparable combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of policies, legislations and principles pertaining to health and safety, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Health and Safety Management Standards
    Ability to identify, assess and control occupational health and safety hazards
  • Records and Information Management Skills with experience managing and/or creating a database
  • Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong project management, organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills
  • Able to multi-task effectively and manage changing priorities
    Excellent computer and information technology skills are essential, including MS Office applications, VISIO, EIM and web content management software
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills ensuring superior attention to detail
  • Ability to work as both a team player and independently, with minimal supervision
  • Ability to conduct research, collect data and analyze results
  • Ability to travel with access to reliable transportation
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
  • Nice to have:

  • Experience in Waste Management would be considered an asset
