About the role

Group Retirement Services (GRS) is the largest defined contribution (DC) plan provider in Canada with over 1 million plan members.

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a high performing, results oriented team focused on supporting client and business needs.

This role reports to the Vice-President & Chief Financial Officer, GRS, and leads a team of over 40 finance professionals that is accountable for accounting and controls, segregated fund valuation and operations.

What you'll be doing

Accounting & Controls_
Responsible for directing the development and monitoring of control processes that meet Corporate, Sarbanes-Oxley, and regulatory requirements
Ensure that current systems and processes meet emerging control and reporting requirements, including GRS' Annual Report on Controls (SOC1) and GRS Quarterly Control Package.
Ensure adequate controls over commission, bonus payments and fees and billings arrangements
Develop and represent GRS Finance system, data and process requirements on GRS, Sun Life Canada and Corporate system development projects
Taxation_
Ensure that policies, practices and administration systems are in compliance with all applicable tax laws and evaluate the tax risk to GRS products in the Canadian DC market
Ensure appropriate controls and procedures are in place to maintain the integrity of product tax reporting and product development activities
Responsible for the annual production process of tax slips for GRS clients
Monitor, interpret and communicate the impact of Federal and Provincial tax legislation on products, administration and marketing materials
Segregated Funds Financial Management_
Ensure the daily trading and valuation of segregated funds are performed in a timely and accurate manner
Ensure timely and accurate operations (such as rebalancing) of multifund on funds
Responsible over the quarterly and annual financial reporting for the GRS segregated funds
Ensure fund valuation issues are addressed timely and appropriately, and maintain a robust control environment
Fund & Trust Services and Fund Operations_
Ensure that all daily operational functions for GRS segregated, mutual & stock funds function properly, with the proper controls in place.
Ensure timely and accurate payment of fund management fee to asset managers
Responsible for issuance and amendment of GRS contracts with asset managers, working with GRS Legal
Provide support for new client onboarding and fund changes

What you'll need to succeed

CPA designation
10+ years experience in a finance leadership role
Strong attention to detail and thorough understanding of accounting and control environments
Ability to work effectively while managing multiple teams in a fast paced, ever changing environment
Innovative thinking, focused on improving control effectiveness and efficiency, and a proven orientation to results and action
Excellent communication, relationship, influencing and interpersonal skills
