About the Opportunity


We are currently seeking a full-time Human Resources Coordinator to join the Barminco team at the Hemlo mine site in Marathon, Ontario.

This is a camp-based position, with a rotation of
14 days on / 14 days off, with a 12-hour daily schedule.


Reporting directly to the site Project Manager with dotted line to the HR Manager of North America, this position will provide coordination, support and guidance to project leaders and employees in the areas of employee relations, performance management, recruitment, benefits, and HRIS administration.


Responsibilities:


  • Manage local retention of employee related information and ensure employee records are accurate
  • Utilize interdepartmental data to generate reports
  • Coach and mentor site leadership in the areas of employee relations and performance management while ensuring fairness, consistency, and alignment with company values and all legal requirements
  • Manage the fullcycle recruitment process, including sourcing, prescreening, interviewing, extending offers, and onboarding
  • Investigate, manage, and mitigate potential risks with employee disciplinary actions and performance management
  • Facilitate manager/employee discussions and resolutions while maintaining the appropriate balance between employee and management advocacy
  • Provide advice and assist regional leadership, managers, and employees in the interpretation and implementation of company policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Act as advisor to regional leadership on Canada employment and Human Rights legislation, communicating updates to regional senior leadership
  • Respond to and resolve employee questions, escalating to Project Manager, Operations Manager, and/or HR Manager as necessary
  • Evaluate current practices and processes for continuous improvement opportunities to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the local HR function
  • Ensure employee relation matters are managed fairly, timely, consistently, and pragmatically as they arise
  • Attend crew meetings and participate in business discussions, serving as a conduit between organizational initiatives and site level implementation

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or a combination of education and experience
  • Industry certification, such as CHRP, CHRL, and/or CPHR preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Prior experience working in a flyin flyout (FIFO), campbased role preferred
  • Hands on experience and strong working knowledge of HR information systems (HRIS)
  • Proven ability to operate with very high levels of integrity and maintain confidentiality
  • Strong, demonstrated knowledge in employee relations and employee performance management
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of HR principles, policies, and procedures with a strong understanding of the Ontario Employment Standards Act, Canadian Human Rights Act, Employment Equity Act, Canada Labour Code, and other related employment legislation
  • Preference will be given to individuals who have knowledge of British Columbia employment legislation
  • Ability to build and foster effective customer relationships
  • Crosscultural awareness with an understanding and sensitivity to the challenges associated with differences in cultural and economic backgrounds
  • Demonstrated conceptual, analytical, and problemsolving skills with the proven ability to reprioritize based on business demands
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate payroll/HR concepts, policies, and processes to employees
  • Ability to practice a high level of confidentiality and work with sensitive information
