    GFL is seeking an experienced Shift Supervisor, Processing Facilities to join our Production team. Our continued growth and development has created an opening for a Shift Supervisor in a GFL Hamilton facility.

    As a part of our team, you will be responsible for the shift operation, ensuring that productivity is achieved while adhering to product quality requirements and customer specifications and all activities are conducted within the guidelines of the Collective Agreement, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and regulations for industrial and environmental, legal, and other requirements.


    General Description:


    Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the Shift Supervisors have an "all-round" operator role, capable of managing all unit operations in High Temperature Metal Recovery (HTMR).

    You will gain hands-on experience producing a zinc product in GFL's Hamilton manufacturing plant.

    You will also become familiar with safety, quality, and how to be successful in a team environment, developing an ability to operate all HTMR equipment and machinery.

    The overall role is to ensure plant processing efficiency.

    You are responsible for managing shift workers, safety oversight & disciplinary action; housekeeping; operational control policies; productivity, quality of work & utilization audits; environmental compliance monitoring; adhering to Collective Agreement terms.


    Operational tasks:


    Broad range of operational activities such as handling and shipping of raw materials and products , operate equipment in production.

    Contributing to a clean, safe, effective and efficient production processes. Forklift operation when required.


    Maintenance & repair tasks:
    Periodically inspects and completes maintenance tasks on the production equipment, signaling defects and deficiencies. Conducts minor repair work and/or assists Maintenance staff with larger maintenance and repair tasks as needed.

    Reporting:
    Logs data and information on production activities in the logbooks / systems.

    Continuous improvement:
    Signals deviations in current processes, techniques or systems and flags opportunities for improvement with supervisor.

    May participate in improvement projects.

    Safety & Compliance:
    Works in compliance with all relevant safety, environmental and quality regulations and procedures, as well as operational standards.


    Promotes awareness on SHEQ, signals potential hazardous and / or unsafe situations, takes appropriate action in case of imminent unsafe situations.


    Good housekeeping:

    Ensures the work area is clean and in a safe working condition and that there are no hazardous situations.

    Maintains the appearance of the production line, working area and production site.


    Key Responsibilities:
    Responsible for the shift operation.
    Operate equipment, machinery and accessories through process control systems
    Effectively operate technology and the equipment. Conduct inspection rounds to ensure that the equipment is working properly.

    Willing to receive training on the operation and functionality of all processes and equipment, including safety systems, and be capable of ensuring adherence to proper procedures and emergency protocols.

    Assist in establishing all production related goals, objectives, and targets.
    Responsible to manage shift manpower needs to maintain productivity, quality control and meet shift requirements.
    Responsible for the shift activities of all hourly employees.
    Ensure all safety concerns and accidents are investigated promptly.
    Ensure that environmental policies and procedures are understood, and issues/incidents are investigated and addressed promptly.
    Perform shift routine walks throughout the building to ensure all production and quality related activities are running smoothly.
    Apply disciplines to shift employees as deemed necessary.
    Report on the team's shift activities and observations, safety meetings and production level.
    Work rotating shifts and overtime as needed.
    Clean and maintain a safe work environment
    Operate and perform routine maintenance on production machinery.
    Collect data, organize, and maintain records daily.
    Data review and analysis of production, reporting results to Production Supervisor
    Responsible for Shift workers to perform a variety of manual tasks in varying temperatures for extended periods of time, which may include lifting light to heavy materials, climbing, standing, squatting, bending, and working at heights when applicable
    Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing


    Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
    Grade 12 diploma, post-secondary education beneficial in technical field
    Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental training
    Supervisory experience in a busy manufacturing environment
    Supervisory Course or equivalent course or proven work experience
    Working knowledge of the latest edition of ISO/IATF procedures
    Previous experience as Shift Supervisor in a manufacturing plant
    Previous experience to operate computerized control panel/Human Machine Interface (HMI) to monitor the process
    Good troubleshooting skills when mechanical issues arise
    Operational experience in the industrial recycling industry (an asset)

    Forklift certificate considered an asset.
    Flexible with working hours (shifts) required, Morning shift: 6:30 am - 2:45 pm, Afternoon shift: 2:30 pm - 10:45 pm, Night shift: 10:30 pm- 6:45 am
