Our expert team specializes in managing environmental liability through comprehensive site investigations, risk assessments, and tailored remediation and risk management plans. The Site Assessment & Remediation (SAR) team is uniquely positioned within AtkinsRéalis, supporting every sector — from transportation and infrastructure to water, power, renewables, and more.

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Junior Environmental Technician to join our team in Ottawa or Toronto. This is a full‑time position (40 hours per week). The successful candidate will assist with—and progressively learn to complete—fundamental tasks related to Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, including groundwater, soil, and vapour monitoring and sampling. Additional responsibilities may include subcontractor supervision and general field support activities.

Your role

The following is a list of some of the day-to-day responsibilities of the successful candidate. In all instances you will work as member of a project team.  

• Follow and enforce rigorous health and safety standards and protocols at work sites.

• Understand and adhere to company-specific and industry-wide technical procedures and regulatory requirements. 

• Implement project-specific environmental work plans.

• Operate and maintain typical field equipment including water level meters, combustible gas indicators, water quality monitors, GPS, and elevation survey equipment. 

• Prepare and submit environmental samples under Chain of Custody procedures for chemical analysis at third party laboratories.

• Document your work and interactions in field notes and logs, photographs and electronic data collection systems. 

• Participate in technical and operational training. 

About you

• You are a new graduate or graduating in 2026 with a College Diploma in an Environment, or Earth Sciences

• A general understanding of groundwater monitoring and sampling techniques, soil descriptions and terminology, and quality assurance/quality control is considered an asset. Experience in the environmental field is considered an asset.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.

• Self-motivated, high energy, strong organizational and time management skills.

• Capable of understanding and appropriately applying prescribed safety and technical protocols.

• Willing to undertake field work year-round and travel throughout the province of Ontario, at times for extended periods (weeks).

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language.

• Candidates must possess a Valid Class 5 Full driver's license.

Expected compensation for this role is between $55,860 - $57,400 annually. (Only Applicable to Ontario). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role.
