Key Responsibilities:
A Cook must be capable to prepare food following instructions while adhering to all safety and health standards. They must be competent and conscientious with a customer-oriented approach. The goal is to provide excellent food services by following instructions and standards.
As a positive and active contributor, your key duties will include:
- Prepare meals with proficiency and mínimal supervision
- Effectively communicates with front of house staff during service
- Manages inventory appropriately
- Maintain safefood handling certificate
- Basic understands budgets and supports costcontrolling measures
- Leadership shown in kitchen including running preservice meetings as required
- Time management shown to prepare items and follow production sheets to meet the meal schedule
- Exhibits knowledge of public health requirements, including temp checks and kitchen cleanliness
- Shows a dedication to customer service by being present in the dining room and building rapport with residents
- Discard leftovers and take out garbage
- Clean food stations and wash dishes, cooking vessels and silverware
- Assist in keeping track of expenses and menu planning
- Help maintain kitchen equipment and appliances
- Previous food services experience in a retirement residence, long term care residence or other hospitality environment is an asset
- Proven experience as a Cook
- Further experience in customer service will be appreciated
- Knowledge of sanitation and safety guidelines, Knowledge of cooking, roasting and plating is essential
- Skilled in preparing meals according to instructions given by Food Services Manager
- Knowledge in operating cookware, bakeware and cooking appliances
- Friendly with good communication skills
- Good physical condition and stamina, ability to stand, lift and constant cleanliness
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in food services is a plus, must posses Food Handler Certificate from Ontario
- As a condition of employment, a Criminal Record Search, which may include a vulnerable sector screen, will be required.
Job Types:
Part-time, Permanent, Casual
Part-time hours: 7.5 per week
Salary:
$17.11-$19.00 per hour
Flexible Language Requirement:
- French not required
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
Supplemental pay types:
- Overtime pay
COVID-19 considerations:
All Staff are required to wear a mask and preform a rapid COVID19 test before the start of each shift.
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Oshawa, ON L1G 8E4: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Experience:
- Cooking: 1 year (preferred)
Language:
- English (required)
Licence/Certification:
- Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (preferred)
