Offering a continuum of care through the lifespan, MACL's children's programs, family services, supported housing, social/recreational and employment services are delivered by 200 committed staff and an annual budget of over $16M.


The Role

If so, we want to hear from you As a Vocational Counsellor, you will play a pivotal role in assessing individuals' interests, qualifications, strengths, and weaknesses to identify suitable employment opportunities.

Collaborating closely with local businesses in Mission, you will facilitate access to employment resources and ensure that our individuals are equipped for success.

Your role will involve ongoing support, progress documentation, and fostering positive relationships between employees and employers.


The Program
Employment Services is dedicated to fostering inclusive communities by connecting individuals with developmental disabilities to meaningful employment opportunities. We partner with local businesses and enterprises to bridge the gap between individual potential and workforce needs. Our belief in the strength of diversity and inclusion drives our mission to create a vibrant and supportive community.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of individuals to identify their skills, interests, and employment goals.
  • Identify barriers to employment and assist clients with such matters as job readiness skills, job search strategies, writing résumés and preparing for job interviews.
  • Collaborate with local businesses to understand their workforce needs and identify potential matches with our individuals.
  • Advocate for necessary accommodations, such as computer software or mobility aids, to enable individuals to excel in their chosen roles.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to individuals in their employment journey, ensuring their success and satisfaction in their positions.
  • Document and report progress to track the growth and development of both individuals and their employers.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, employment laws, and resources to provide the most uptodate support.

The qualifications you bring to MACL

  • Post secondary education in supported employment required.
  • Experience with job coaching and mentoring, including ability to work with employers.
  • Valid First Aid certificate
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in the community with diplomacy and discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to support individuals in their employment goals, including job club activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate opportunities for employment relationships.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of competitive and customized employment models and the DISCOVERY process
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work within a team.
  • Critical thinking, problem solving skills and Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to provide health supports, including personal care and work with Health Services for Community Living
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate opportunities for development of personal relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement Individualized Service Plans, with family involvement, including Behaviour Support Plans/Safety Plans, as required.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a safe and healthy physical environment
  • Physician's report indicating good physical and mental health, free of communicable diseases
  • Food Safe _(Level 1)_ certification
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence required
  • Tuberculosis Risk Assessment and a Criminal record check are preemployment requirements
  • Use of own safe vehicle for transportation of individuals is required
  • Computer competency is required
  • Commitment/practice in Professional Ethics

Job Types:

Salary:
$26.74-$30.69 per hour
