    Engineering Technologist

    Calgary, Alberta

    Purpose:

    The Engineering Technologist will report directly into the Practice Lead of the group and will be an integral part of the building envelope/science team to conduct field measurements, sketches, calculations, specification sheets and other data in an efficient and professional manner. The Technologist is also responsible for conducting on-site engineering examinations and writing detailed reports, including but not limited to surveying and D laser scanning.

    Roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Be the 'go to' field person for field work and gathering forensic information for building documentation,
  • Travel to and from site to perform reviews for engineers and document findings in an organized and precise manner,
  • Take autonomous responsibility for on-site examinations, utilizing advanced tools such as Total Station survey equipment and D Laser Scanner Survey to gather data for engineering analysis.
  • Operate standard computer -assisted design (AutoCAD) in various capacities.
  • Develop and prepare engineering designs and drawings from field measurements, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and other data.
  • Develop and prepare geometric analyses and evidentiary drawings.
  • Prepare drawing sets for building application submissions, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Conduct thorough checks and verifications of drawings to ensure accuracy, conformity to specifications, and alignment with provided data.
  • Collaborate and consult with engineers to resolve any drawing issues or technical challenges, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and effective communication.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and expertise in all interactions, representing the organization with integrity and building positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in CAD software and engineering techniques, proactively seeking opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Work in a collaborative environment, both on your team and across disciplines
  • Take on additional responsibilities as required, including mentoring junior CAD engineers, and contributing to process improvement initiatives.
  • Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of professional experience as a Engineer or Architectural Technologist
  • Proven expertise in creating and modifying engineering designs, with a strong understanding of industry standards and best practices.
  • Experience in using advanced surveying equipment such as Total Station and D Laser Scanner Survey.
  • Proficiency in conducting geometric analysis and producing high-quality drawings for engineering applications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to verify drawings for accuracy and compliance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with engineers and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and take responsibility for project deliverables.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Requirements:

  • Completion of college program in Architectural or Civil Technologies or related field
  • Knowledge of current applicable Building Codes in Alberta is beneficial
  • Able to prepare and obtain Building permits.
  • D Laser scanner survey experience an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel)
  • Experience with other Autodesk software (or similar software) an asset: CivilD, Revit, DSMax
  • Experience with software programs (or similar software) an asset: FARO Scene, FARO As-built.
  • Experience of Total Station an asset
  • Ability to identify and support needs of internal client base.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration in ASET as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
