Manager, IT Infrastructure


The Manager, IT Infrastructure is responsible for the strategic and tactical design architecture, implementation and operations of the College's core IT infrastructure.

In addition, this position provides project planning, monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance, and installation of critical infrastructure, spanning physical networks, telephony systems, cabling and WIFI systems, data centre / service rooms, power systems (UPS, PDUs, generators), firewall and infrastructure security management, cloud management, and IT service provisioning (firmware, OS).


This position will report directly to the Director, Infrastructure and Operations and with extensive expertise in one or more functional areas will provide day-to-day and strategic direction to a number of IT technical leads and technicians, or individual contributors.

The Manager, IT Infrastructure will report directly to the Director, Infrastructure and Operations while establishing and maintaining strong relationships with the help desk, enterprise architecture and security, development build teams, and project managers.


Strives for Operational Excellence - To ensure core IT infrastructure and services are highly available, resilient, redundant, secure, well designed, accessible, and are adaptable to support the College's evolving and changing business needs.

This position will enhance system monitoring, produce standard reports on the status of infrastructure, and regularly communicate on key remediation and enhancements.


Standard & Procedures - To work closely with the senior IT leadership team to implement relevant IT policies, procedures, and best practices to operate and support cost-effective technology solutions, and lead initiatives to improve operational maturity.

This includes providing input into the annual IT budgets, IT Strategy, IT operating plans, Compliance Management, Risk Management, Asset Management, Demand Management, and Delivery Management.

Delivery Management - to ensure projects assigned get accomplished within the expected time frames and specification requested.

A key responsibility of the position will be to ensure all team activities are monitored, and timely feedback is provided to the team on agreed-upon performance success criteria.


The Manager, IT Infrastructure will lead and manage the efficient, innovative, sustainable and cost-effective IT infrastructure functions and services of Mohawk College.


To be compliant with the Acceptance of Payment Card Policy and PCI Requirements, this position is required to provide a Police Check prior to the commencement of employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:

IT Asset Management

  • Lead and manage the development, procurement and proactive maintenance of core IT Infrastructure services, including:
  • Developing infrastructure plans related to capacity management to ensure core IT infrastructure meets business demand and growth.
  • Maintaining the IT Infrastructure Services Strategy for the IT Department including how IT Infrastructure Services should be delivered with input from each IT area to ensure opportunities for improvement are identified and consistently acted upon.
  • Managing the information about all IT Infrastructure Services in a Service Catalogue including those available for Deployment to ensure it is clear to IT Stakeholders what IT Infrastructure Services are available.
  • Working with each IT Operational Area to maintain IT Infrastructure Services Best Practices and Frameworks such as ITIL and ITSM for Incident, Change, Problem, Availability, Access and Asset Management.
  • Development, management and oversight of IT Infrastructure Services related processes, acting on IT Infrastructure Services incidents and breaches while engaging and partnering across the business of IT and other related functions across the college.

Availability and Capacity Management

  • Oversee the planning and supporting for ongoing maintenance of IT infrastructure, ensuring minimized down time and all housekeeping jobs are executed effectively.
  • Lead the scheduling of support backups and restora
