    Description

    Purpose:

    Osgoode Professional Development (OsgoodePD) is a revenue-generating professional education branch of Osgoode Hall Law School, operating within a highly competitive commercial market for professional and executive continuing education.

    OsgoodePD offers degree and non-degree programs to both local and international students.

    Offerings include full-time and part-time graduate degree LLMs, non-degree certificates, seminars and skills workshops, summer school and bridging programs, webinars, and custom training for corporations and government.

    Staff and programs are located at both the York University campus and OsgoodePD's downtown Toronto office. Programs are delivered in multiple formats and delivery modes within and outside of Canada.

    Under the direction of the Director, Business Operations, the Manager, Finance and Accounting role plays a key managerial role in OsgoodePD finance and accounting functions, business performance reporting, business process improvement, and supports the Director on ad-hoc projects, as needed.

    The role is responsible for coordinating financial and accounting activities across multiple academic and operational departments, and helps to find new ways of working, using technology and working together collaboratively to actively assist in the achievement of OsgoodePD's strategic plans, mission, values, and objectives.

    The role is accountable for compliance with defined York University and Osgoode administration policies and procedures.

    Under the direction of the Director, the role works with Central Administration to problem-solve and facilitate resources management and effective budgetary decision-making.

    Education:

    Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline, such as business or accounting.

    Experience:

    Recent experience in accounting, finance, controllership, and/or business process improvement.
    2 years of management or supervisory experience.

    Skills:

    Knowledge of accounting, budget management, financial controls, financial planning principles and general accounting procedures.
    Working knowledge of full-cycle accounting including accounts payable and financial reporting.

    Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the knowledge required for financial designations such as CA, CMA, CGA, CPA, or CIA.

    Effective knowledge of payroll processes, source deductions, as well as HST/GST.
    Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Access, Power BI, and Power Automate.
    Effective knowledge of managing in a unionized environment and applying a collective agreement.
    Proficient in financial management systems (PeopleSoft/SAP/Oracle or similar).
    Effective financial planning and analysis skills.
    Effective communication skills.
    Able to create financial reports, analyses, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) documentation.
    Ability to analyze and implement improvements on existing business and accounting operations/processes.
    Ability to propose multiple problem-solving approaches and identify optimal solutions based on defined requirements.
    Ability to develop and/or lead cohesive teams and manage performance and productivity.
    Effective planning and organizational skills with ability to prioritize workload and meet timelines.
    Proficient in Microsoft Excel including building Excel/VBA based models.
