Richmond School District operates 38 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, alternate programs, continuing education and a number of additional facilities.

The district enrolls approximately 21,000 students (K-12) and employs over 3000 dedicated staff.


Oversees the day-to-day operations for the StrongStart BC program and ensures that the goals and objectives of the program are met.

The StrongStart BC Facilitator is responsible for creating and facilitating a program environment where parents and caregivers participate alongside their children in an interactive, play-based setting.

StrongStart BC facilitators require a sound knowledge of issues and trends in Early Childhood Education. StrongStart Facilitators have experience working with a varied demographic of both children and adults.

StrongStart BC programs are located within public elementary schools, and support children and their families as they transition to the public school system.

Responsibilities:

Ensure that the programs and activities are developed and maintained in response to the StrongStart BC guidelines.


Model communication and parenting skills for, and in partnership with, parents and caregivers who may hold varied and differing beliefs and values.

Provide opportunities for parents and caregivers to observe and practice effective strategies that support early learning and parenting skills.


Create, organize, and maintain a warm and inviting Early Childhood environment that provides safety and security for children and their caregivers.

Maintain registration and attendance records.


Set goals and expectations for self and program based on the Reflecting on Quality: Program Reflection Tool for StrongStart BC.

Work closely with and understand the requirements of the school personnel and District and Ministry policy and procedures.

Develop and maintain positive working relationship with the school community and community partners.

Promote the StrongStart BC program as required.

Promote awareness of quality early learning care and education.

Purchase program food and supplies as needed within a budget.

Maintain a petty cash ledger and account for expenditures.

Plan and facilitate the delivery of the daily program.

Set up and take down daily, or as necessary, program materials and equipment. Keep materials and equipment in good repair, or request work orders to do so.


Link parents/caregivers to services offered by health authorities, community agencies and other social service providers (health screening, libraries, English Language Learners services, Family Resource Programs, child care services, and referrals for children who may have developmental or other special needs).

Provide an outreach component to support families in a confidential setting.

Maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to children and parents, except where law requires disclosure.

Required Qualifications

Grade 12 plus an Early Childhood Education certificate.

Must hold a current BC Early Childhood Educator License to Practice.

Must hold a valid Emergency First Aid with Childsafe component.

Minimum one year experience working as an Early Childhood Educator.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work effectively with a variety of parents, caregivers, diverse ethnic populations, children, professionals, school and community members.


Ability to plan and implement a variety of activities for a diverse group of children with a range of ages.

Food Safe certification is an asset.


This position is in the bargaining unit, fulltime 35 hours per week, with an hourly rate of pay of $28.36 plus a benefit package of medical, extended health, dental and a pension plan.
