Kinder Educator - OCT
This is a great opportunity to work with a supportive team who is dedicated to helping you build a new role with Mothercraft Ottawa


The Kinder Educator - OCT, under the direction of the Program Manager, works in collaboration as part of the interprofessional Kinder Team (Kinder Educator - RECE, Kinder Educator - French) to develop, plan, implement and evaluate Mothercraft Ottawa's Alternative Kindergarten Program.

The Kinder Team together shares in the administrative tasks associated with the Program, and works as a team to ensure the program is delivered in accordance with Mothercraft Ottawa's values.


While the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Alternative Kindergarten Program is a collaborative team process, each of the team members has a unique role to play to contribute based on their expertise and education.

The Kinder Team collaborates on the planning and delivery of nearly all components of the program, with the following responsibiliies being unique to specific roles:


  • Kinder Educator
  • French: Plans, implements and evaluates students in French language education;
  • Kinder Educator
-RECE: Plans and implements Jr Kinder students' group time or other Jr-specific proramming, as well as leading the evaluation of Jr Kinder group:

  • Kinder Educator -OCT: Plans and implements Sr Kinder students' group time or other Sr-specific programming, as well as leading the evaluation of Sr Kinder group.


The Kinder Educator - OCT is responsible to share amongst the Kinder Team the planning and implementation of our Child Care Program in accordance with the Program Statement in their program classroom(s).

They ensure that it is designed to promote the cognitive, social, physical and emotional well-being and development of the children under the guidelines of _How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years_ and Mothercraft Ottawa's mission and strategic plan and the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA).


The Kinder Educator - OCT mentors Educators, Child Care Workers and other classroom staff, post-secondary students and volunteers, models our program to their team, and acts as a resource to parents.

They also provide support and guidance when dealing with behaiour issues.


In addition to teaching, the Kinder educator - OCT is responsible in assisting the Kinder Team and broader Mothercraft Team in providing diverse basic care needs including supplying proper nutrition and performing cleaning duties.

Mothercraft Ottawa is a non-profit multifaceted family support agency offering a wide array of programs for families from pregnancy to school age.

Mothercraft has been supporting and meeting the needs of families and care providers in our community since 1944.

We offer early learning programs and services that support early childhood development; and full-time, part
- time and casual, licensed child care programs for children aged 6 weeks to 12 years. Mothercraft Ottawa's child care programs are provided in a centre, in a school or in a caregiver's home and are available throughout the year.


We offer a comprehensive range of support services for parents, including prenatal classes, birth companion support, drop-in play groups and parenting workshops.

As an EarlyON Child and Family Centre we offer programs and workshops that support parents and caregivers in all aspects of early child development.

Note all our programs are offered in both English and French.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Member in Good Standing with the Ontario College of Teachers and/or Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Experience in a group child care program
  • Experience delivering programming based on the Ontario kindergarten and early primary (grade 1, 2) curriculum
  • Extensive knowledge of early years child development
  • Strong knowledge of play based, child lead learning
  • Adequate energy and ability to meet the physical demands of the job
  • Valid first aid and CPR level C certification, including infant and child
  • Satisfactory vulnerable sector check
  • High level of integrity and work ethic
  • Expected that staff will engage in continuous professional learning opportunities to keep informative of the latest research on adult education, child development, play and inquirybased pedago
