The Transit Market Sector at HDR is a broad and diverse practice that spans a large variety of project types including LRT, BRT, subway, metro and heavy rail.

We work with our clients across the project life-cycle including planning, preliminary design, detail design, construction oversight and program management.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead all conceptual and detail design aspects of vehicle and transit maintenance facilities for small to medium and large, projects
Provide guidance and specialty facility design services to multidisciplines design team
Independently coordinate the work of professional staff and balance the team throughout the entire project's development
Participate in leading concept/design meetings with various clients and architects
Conduct work sessions for design development
Coordinate workload through the entire project development for completing documents on schedule
Track the financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust the work effort with the team to ensure that the work is completed within the budget
Serve as the design manager of the production team when requested by the overall Project Manager
Facility programming, report writing, site master planning, developing specifications and construction documents
Selection, coordination and layout of various aspects of facilities design (vehicle maintenance equipment, site flow, etc.)
Submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs review
Conduct construction field observations
Other design / engineering tasks as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture
A minimum of 15 years experience on industrial/transit facility and civil engineering design projects
Strong background in multidiscipline design including architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and fire protection
Experience in cost control, scheduling and risk management
Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and Project
Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously
Must be a team player and a selfstarter
An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employeeowned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

P.Eng. or Registered Architect
Experience working on TTC, Metrolinx, CN, VIA, CP and Translink projects
Command of Revit and AutoCAD, and knowledge of SketchUp
