Matcon Underground Utilities Ltd is one of the Lower Mainland's leading and most highly respected construction companies specializing in Civil Infrastructure. Due to our continued growth we are currently seeking experienced applicants for a Civil Superintendent position.


Superintendent Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor Foreman on safety, quality, productivity, and scheduling, Ensure Foreman know and understand the plan of the day.
  • Promote and adhere to company policies including Matcon's HSE Management System. Correct unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Participate and conduct annual performance reviews of Foreman.
  • Assist with hiring and recruitment.
  • Monitor Foreman responsibility to review safe work practices, procedures, and work plans with craft.
  • Train Foreman to prepare and maintain work schedules.
  • Ensure equipment operators hold current certification, except excavator operators. (HSE group to deliver excavator training)
  • Must be prepared to perform other tasks when Foreman are not available including vacation relief.
  • Participate in incident investigations and site inspections.
  • Ensure all workers properly handle, store, and maintain assigned equipment.
  • Monitor small tools and consumables procurement with Foreman's input.
  • Monitor Foreman's responsibility to followup on Project Manager materials requisitions for site receiving.
  • Ensure new hires have been provided and introduced to a mentor who is experienced and knowledgeable of the job and exhibits positive coaching behavior.
  • Review each projects quality plan with the Project Manager prior to start of work.
  • Supervise your operations so there is no rework. Do it right the first time.
  • Understand the budget and complete your work at or below budget.
  • Carry out disciplinary/corrective actions as per respective policy.
  • Participate in manpower, supervision, and daily work instruction meetings. Monitor the assigned manpower, supervision, and daily work instruction.
  • Regularly communicate work progress, schedule variance, crew, and safety performance to the Project Manager.
  • Coordinate equipment resource availability/needs with ESEL. Take care of your equipment by insisting on visual checks, and scheduling maintenance with ESEL. Track outside equipment rentals
  • Listen to Owner/Client concerns/requests, convey concerns to the PM, and promote solving problems. Be part of the solution.
  • Ensure Foreman submittals of: (1) Daily Foreman's Reports with claimed progress using job cost codes, (2) Worker Daily Timesheets, and (3) Equipment Log/Operator Time Slips.
  • Monitor Foreman conducting Daily Toolbox Talks. Motivate craft participation in raising safety concerns.
  • Initial /Sign Job Hazard Analysis (JHA). Review Safety Behavior Interaction (SBI) cards.
  • Shared responsibility with Project Manager to create work plans, and signoff work plan readiness. Plan accidentfree work.
  • Friendly, professional, wellpresented, and clear communicator.
  • Able to handle pressure and coordination of several tasks at once.
  • Problem solver.
  • A valid Driver's License is required for this position.
  • Skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project)
  • Strong understanding of scheduling.
  • Complete understanding of Civil Infrastructure operations.
