    THE CENTRE FOR PHENOGENOMICS (TCP)

    The Centre for Phenogenomics (TCP) is a state-of-the-art research centre enabling groundbreaking research and discovery with the goal of advancing human health. We are the largest Centre in Canada, brought about through an innovative scientific collaboration among preeminent research hospitals including Mount Sinai Hospital and The Hospital for Sick Children. The TCP is a globally acclaimed Canadian resource that serves researchers throughout the world. Located in the heart of Toronto's Discovery District, the TCP pools functional expertise and resources under one roof, all to enable the best science, supported by the best infrastructure. Our ability to generate, hold, analyze, archive and distribute a critical mass of genetically engineered mice is unique. Your significant contributions will assist in maintaining our momentum in advancing our research.

    TCP has an opening for one (1) permanent full-time Training Coordinator to start in September/October 2023. Reporting to the Compliance Support Veterinarian, and working with senior veterinary staff, the incumbent will ensure the TCP training program meets the needs of animal users and staff and is in compliance with provincial regulations, national standards and guidelines and institutional policies. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ensuring that research personnel are trained and that competency has been assessed for working with animals; assisting Supervisors with TCP personnel training; develop new training modules (online & in-person), presentations and hand-outs as required; provide in-class training and all hands-on training of procedures; administrative duties including scheduling of training, maintaining detailed records of training and competency, working with a specialized colony management database and on-line training programs; set up training space as required, coordinate training resources required, clean space following training; provide ongoing monitoring and remedial training as required; assist in writing and review of standard operating procedures. Other responsibilities include: working cooperatively with scientific staff and fellow team members; work is conducted in a highly regulated environment according to standard operating procedures.

    The successful candidate must be a graduate of a Veterinary Technician program or a university degree in biological sciences combined with relevant experience in laboratory animal science. Must have CALAS certification at RLAT or RMLAT level. Minimum of 5 years experience in laboratory animal science with proven technical and surgical abilities with rodents. A good understanding of CCAC guidelines, OMAFRA regulations, Canadian Biosafety Guidelines and Global Harmonized System (WHMIS) is required. Prior experience in a supervisory or training role in laboratory animal science and knowledge of adult learning theory and teaching principles is an asset. Applicants require strong interpersonal and organizational skills and be committed to the achievement of goals and ability to work independently. Excellent communication skills (both written & verbal), a strong work ethic, be able to maintain a professional attitude and maintain high standards to detail. Must be able to lift a minimum of 33 pounds, push/pull racks &/or hoods; must be able to stand for a substantial period while performing duties. Must be able to obtain a criminal record check clearance letter from Toronto Police Services upon employment.
