WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Natural Forces is seeking a recent graduate to fill a position as Renewable Energy Project Planner. This is a full-time position based in Halifax, NS that will require occasional travel.

The primary responsibilities of the role will be:

  • Support the development of various renewable energy projects across Canada
  • Writing technical reports and assisting with local and provincial permitting
  • Assisting with the identification of new project sites
  • Contributing to wind resource campaigns
  • Participating in public engagement sessions

KEY TASKS/DUTIES

Mapping and modelling

  • Assisting in the identification of suitable new project sites using various software, such as ArcGIS, WindPro, Google Earth, etc.
  • Producing maps showing new project sites
  • Creating preliminary project layouts using a diverse set of datasets and constraints
  • Modelling sound, shadow, and visual impact assessments for new projects
  • Conducting greenhouse gas reduction assessments for new projects

Real property work

  • Scoping the necessary real property work required for new projects
  • Producing maps required for landowner discussions and negotiations
  • Drafting and editing of contracts to secure land agreements
  • Contacting and negotiating contracts with landowners
  • Working with solicitors to ensure the contracts are appropriate
  • Managing the payment of land rental fees
  • Identifying, reviewing, and understanding the legislation, regulation, and policy documents related to all permits required for renewable energy projects in various jurisdictions
  • Working with local and regional planning staff and Councils on project permitting requirements
  • Liaising with the local utility to prepare and submit appropriate documentation for project interconnection studies

Stakeholder and rightsholder relations and outreach

  • Assisting with public relations, education, and engagement activities
  • Supporting relationship building and engagement with special interest groups
  • Researching new studies and findings concerning renewable energy projects
  • Drafting stakeholder engagement and consultation documents

Wind resource instrumentation and assessments

  • Assisting in identification of appropriate locations on new project sites for the installation of wind monitoring equipment, including meteorological towers and remote sensing devices
  • Traveling to new sites to assess the proposed locations for wind monitoring equipment
  • Obtain the necessary permits to install wind monitoring equipment in various jurisdictions
  • Set up and monitor communications for wind monitoring equipment
  • Liaise with landowners for the installation, decommissioning, and maintenance of wind measurement equipment on their lands

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with GIS software, such as ArcGIS, would be an asset to this position but is not considered mandatory
  • Postsecondary degree with background in planning, engineering, environmental science, geography, sustainability or other relevant degree
  • Previous experience in planning and/or infrastructure would be considered an asset.
