The opportunity:


The Technical Services Specialists time is divided based on a rotational basis and departmental need, which changes as a result of both regular, predictable seasonal variations in workload, as well as unforeseen and unpredictable events.

Assignment to new rotation, and/or de-assignment from existing ones, is anticipated to be uncommon (no more frequently than once a year), may be precipitated by departmental need or incumbent request, and is always accompanied by formal on-the-job training when required.


The qualifications and experience we're looking for:

  • A library technician's diploma or equivalent relevant library experience and/or training is required.
  • A university education in a related field is required.
  • Knowledge of a modern European language in addition to English is desired.
  • Four years of related academic library experience and/or training, plus detailed knowledge of library procedures, records and bibliographic tools is required.
  • Experience with microcomputers and the Integrated Library System essential is required.
  • Familiarity with the MARC 21 bibliographic, authority, and holdings formats is required.
  • Experience cataloguing to AACR2 and/or RDA standards is required.
  • Experience managing licensed electronic resources in a library environment is preferred.
  • Experience using acquisitions and/or cataloguing functions within an automated library system is preferred.
  • Current experience with general office routines including business correspondence is preferred.
  • Experience using and interpreting information from the databases of publishers and library materials vendors is desired.
  • Experience using Ex Libris Alma in a Technical Services or Libraries Systems environment is desired.
  • Knowledge of financial management, ordering, invoicing, budgets, accounting and funds is desired.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Intermediate level skill using Microsoft Office 365 is required.
  • Excellent computer file management skills and a capacity for organization is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbal and written is required.
  • Ability to deal effectively with students, faculty, staff, and business contacts is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work quickly and accurately and the ability to work effectively in peak periods is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collegially is required.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and effectively to procedural and computer system change is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and to meet appropriate deadlines and production goals is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, analyze, and interpret information in order to make decisions is required.
  • Evidence of initiative and flexibility in problem solving and the ability to exercise good judgement in making decisions is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service is required.
  • Basic HTML coding skills are preferred.
  • Familiarity with terms and provisions commonly used in the licensing of electronic resources is desired.
  • Familiarity with electronic resource access methods ( e.g EZ proxy,IP addresses, etc.) is desired.
  • Excellent keyboarding skills are desired.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
  • Physically capable of performing the duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning is required.
