Weaver, Simmons LLP is seeking a Criminal Litigation Assistant to join our Sudbury office. The successful applicant will be working directly with the senior partner in the criminal department, whose practice is Criminal Defence.


Primary duties/responsibilities include:


  • Schedule court dates, appointments, and meetings.
  • Track client court dates and provide clerical support, including data entry, file organization, and document management.
  • Represent the firm in court appearances at the Ontario Court of Justice to address legal matters.
  • Open and close files.
  • Prepare client invoices and accounts, maintaining thorough and organized financial records.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all tasks and documentation.
  • Effective multitasking and time management abilities to handle multiple assignments efficiently.
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to facilitate clear and effective correspondence.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe software, as well as experience with Zoom and other virtual platforms.
  • Reliable, organized, and able to prioritize responsibilities effectively.

Qualifications:


  • A strong administrative background or prior experience working within an office environment is mandatory.
  • Previous legal experience is highly valued and will be considered a significant asset.
  • Completion of the Paralegal or Law Clerk degree or certificate is an asset.
