The Department of Anesthesia at Grand River and St. Mary's General Hospital is recruiting Anesthesiologists for full time and locum positions in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. The starting dates are flexible from present to July 2024. Kitchener

  • Waterloo is one of Canada's fastest growing communities. The Waterloo Region is very culturally diverse, with close to 1 in 4 residents born outside Canada. KW is known for its innovative tech sector, as it has the 2nd highest number of startups in North America. We are home to two high calibre universities (University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier), in addition to Canada's largest trade school, Conestoga College. Grand River Hospital and St. Mary's General Hospital are two separately governed hospitals that function as an integrated system. Each hospital has welldefined and complementary clinical programs to serve both the local community and the region. Both hospitals have acute care Emergency Rooms with patient volumes reaching approximately 55,000 visits/annum. St. Mary's General Hospital is a Regional Cardiac Care Centre and a Centre of Excellence for Respiratory and Thoracic Care.


Grand River Hospital hosts several regional programs including the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, the Hepatobiliary Surgical Program, in addition to stroke, renal and mental health programmes.

The Anesthesia department provides services to a busy obstetrical unit, acute pain service, and surgical programs in orthopedic, spine, cardiac, thoracic, ENT, urology, gynecology, plastic, maxillofacial, general, ophthalmology and emergency surgery.

The scope of practice provides both adult and some pediatric anesthesiology. We have also added a dedicated regional block room and electrophysiology lab. A specific subgroup of anesthesiologists within the department provides services for our cardiac program.

Our surgeons perform approximately 10,000 procedures each year. Anesthesiologists have the opportunity to teach medical students and residents through our affiliation with McMaster University Michael G.

Degroote School of Medicine and there are opportunities for an academic appointment.
