EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Position:
West End 24 Hour Safe Space Outreach Worker


Spence Neighbourhood Association is looking to hire for multiple Outreach Worker job positions in our overnight safe space. Positions vary from casual, part time and full time.

Responsibilities:


  • Provide direct services and support to youth between the ages of 1326 between the hours of 11:00 pm 7:00 am
  • Provide a safe space to sleep for participants between the ages of 182
  • Ensure participants needs are met in the areas of food, safety, shelter, housing, hygiene and harm reduction
  • Monitor the safety and wellbeing of participants who access the service
  • Provide effective crisis management including overdose response, first aid, medical and mental health emergency response
  • Support youth in a strengthbased approach using a behaviour management model that includes restorative justice practices
  • Liaise with afterhour agencies to facilitate contact and services for youth
  • Document daily statistical information along with daily logs, incident reports, contact reports and other information as applicable
  • Refer participants to additional agencies for services they may require
  • Assist with the opening and closing duties of the safe space
  • Comply with all SNA employee expectations, policies, and procedures

Requirements:


-Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Life experiences similar to those that are served by WE24 and/or a combination of experience working or volunteering with people in a community context
  • Demonstrate an indepth understanding of barriers that exist for Indigenous and Newcomer youth and their families
  • Demonstrated commitment to antiracism, anticolonialism and antioppression
  • Knowledge of restorative justice and harm reduction philosophies and practices
  • Experience working with, mentoring or counselling youth
  • Knowledge of resources available for youth and adults within the innercity and the ability to refer individuals to the resources for their needs
  • Ability to navigate crisis and support others through stressful situations
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills

Assets:


  • Experience working with youth involved with gangs
  • Experience working with youth who live with addictions or mental health differences
  • Experience working with 2SLGBTQ* community and other marginalized groups of youth
  • Education, experience and/or training in a related field
  • Class 5 Driver's License

Hours and Remuneration
SNA agrees to pay the employee $18.00 per hour on a bi-weekly schedule, with hours paid as worked. Responsibilities may require flexible hours to be worked to accommodate scheduling. WE24 Outreach Workers should expect to work overnight, Monday-Sunday.
