Reports to Executive Director


Employment Status Full Time, Salary


Hours of Work Daytime weekday (some evenings and weekends may be required)


Position Analysis


The Culinary Services Coordinator of Rotary Villas will act as the Food Services Manager, ensuring good service and cost compliance from all kitchen and dining room staff.

The Culinary Services Coordinator will set the menu based on organizational standards and recipes and ensure staff and supplies are in place to meet the requirement.

Culinary services are provided to team members, family members of residents and residence guests equally.

As a member of the management team, the Culinary Services Coordinator will also participate in community operations including rotating duty manager shifts, program development budgets and resident relations.


Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Determine production schedules and staffing necessary to ensure timely delivery of services.
  • Ensure menu and foods are prepared in accordance with health guidelines for seniors
  • Customize seasonal and special event menus to meet resident preferences
  • Assist in developing individualized food service plans where required
  • Assist Executive Director to manage and evaluate the delivery and performance of the food services program and to develop and implement policies and procedures related to food services in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor inventory and reliably estimate consumption for ordering of supplies, including food, cleaning and kitchen wares within budgetary constraints
  • Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas to ensure conformance to established standards
  • Liaise and consult with inspectors and other professionals as appropriate
  • Administer regular testing for quality assurance (i.e. temperature and food quality)
  • Establish and monitor workflow of the kitchen and dining room
  • Oversee all Cooks and Servers to ensure organizational standards are being met at all times and that the work of all staff is carried out in accordance with applicable legislation, policies and procedures relevant to the work
  • Take an active role during service periods, ensuring that Resident needs are met and exceeded, and that the Service team functions at the highest standard
  • Responsible for staffing processes including forecasting staffing levels and scheduling, recruiting, supervising, developing, motivating and retaining employees
  • Actively interact with residents, families and guests in a professional, courteous manner
  • Performs the duties of a cook as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Competencies & Qualifications

  • Education & Experience_
  • Two (2) year diploma in food services, culinary arts or related field from a recognized college
  • Red Seal Certification and Food Handlers Certification an asset
  • Experience using Rationale Technology
  • Extensive experience in large quantity food purchasing and preparation
  • Organizational management experience
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification required, or must be willing to obtain upon hire
  • Knowledge of all legislative regulations and policies related to food preparation and service

  • Ability to leverage available resources in an effort to meet budget requirements and practice good financial management
  • Exceptional time management skills, ability to prioritize, multitask, selfinitiate and work as part of a team
  • Ability to supervise staff, organize and schedule work functions and motivate a team of employees
  • Understanding influence of disabilities and aging processes on residents' food preferences
  • Ability to develop menu plans and special diet options creatively
  • Ability to reliably estimate consumption of supplies for ordering purposes
  • Effective written and oral communication skills to respectfully and compassionately work with older adults and their families and provide effective leadership and direction to staff
  • Excellent observational skills and ability to determine urgency or reportable incidents
