Who we are:


Sunshine Centres for Seniors is a non-profit organization providing social, recreational and health promotion day programs for seniors in the Greater Toronto Area.

Our mission is to reduce social isolation, improve the health and well-being of older adults and to empower them to lead meaningful and connected lives in which they are engaged and participating in the community.

We offer programs at several different sites across downtown Toronto as well as our unique flagship program, Camp Sunshine on Ward's Island.


The Opportunity:


Responsibilities:


  • Take responsibility for the planning, coordination and implementation of more than one of Sunshine's recreational and health promotion program as well as assist with existing Sunshine programs where needed.
  • Take a leadership role in developing creative program plans and monthly calendars;
  • Creatively contribute ideas for new projects, activities and programs as well as energy and passion to our cohesive staff and volunteer team;
  • Set up and clean up of program space as required;
  • Participate in the development and implementation of special events;
  • Positively represent Sunshine Centres in the community as well as foster our organization's mission and inclusive culture;
  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed.
  • Work closely and remotely with our dedicated team of staff, volunteers, corporate volunteer groups and intergenerational visitors.
  • Participates in the collective work of Sunshine Centres for Seniors as required and accepts accountability for their programs.

Qualifications:


  • Diploma or degree in activation, gerontology, recreation and leisure, social services, community services, or similar field of study;
  • Vast experience with developing, implementing and facilitating recreational activities, programs and special events for seniors;
  • Experience working with seniors including marginalized seniors and those from diverse cultures and backgrounds;
  • Ability to fluently communicate both written and verbally in Mandarin or Cantonese.
  • Strong autonomy, initiative and leadership skills;
  • Well developed time management, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Clear oral and written communication skills.
  • Open minded with a positive attitude
  • Patience, empathy and understanding for behaviors related to aging.
  • Dependable and challenge driven
  • Highly organized and enthusiastic about the work they are doing
  • Looking for vibrant, creative, and energetic out of the box thinkers.
  • Ability to speak additional languages will be viewed as a strength
  • Knowledge and training in geriatric fitness practices is an asset
  • An openness to all challenges presented and the flexibility to adapt to changing situations.
