What YOU Will Do


As a Risk Specialist - Alternative Projects and Infrastructure at Pomerleau, you oversee the management of risks and opportunities for all APEX projects.

Your role involves implementing tools and systems to identify, analyze, and quantify the risks associated with APEX projects.

You participate in approval procedures and internal reviews of opportunities to help establish the probabilities and impacts of raised risks and opportunities, as well as the choice of mitigations.

Additionally, you are responsible for producing reports detailing the project risk profile for the department.

  • Your role will involve developing and implementing a process for the management of risks and opportunities for all APEX projects across Canada.
  • Develop detailed plans outlining the steps taken to identify and minimize risks and maximize opportunities for APEX projects.
  • Assist proposal managers in building registers of key risks and opportunities that may have negative or positive impacts on project realization at the outset of the proposal process, and proceed with appropriate updates thereafter.
  • Implement tools quantifying the probabilities of risks or opportunities for projects using recognized models such as Monte Carlo simulations.
  • Contribute to determining the budgetary envelopes required to facilitate decisionmaking and the allocation of appropriate contingencies, thereby strengthening the ability to adhere to project costs and timelines.
  • Play a key role in risk control by participating in the approval and internal review processes of APEX projects.
  • Take responsibility for defining the risk profile of the APEX department.
  • Support Pomerleau's risk and opportunity management initiatives by assisting in the implementation of appropriate tools, procedures, and systems.
  • Report to the Director of Operations
  • Alternative Projects and be responsible for summarizing the major risks and opportunities of APEX projects to the Vice President
  • APEX Building and the Vice President
  • APEX Civil and Infrastructure.

What YOU Will Bring

  • Hold a university degree in engineering or another relevant field;
  • Have a minimum of 510 years of experience in the construction, engineering consulting, or project management industry, ideally with projects executed in alternative modes (design, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance);
  • Possess good knowledge of software and other tools for risk quantification;
  • Demonstrate analytical skills and an ability to understand, interpret, and simplify complex data;
  • Have previous experience in a similar role;
  • Have experience interpreting budgets, balance sheets, P&L, and other financial statements;
  • Exhibit excellent communication and management skills;
  • Be bilingual in French and English.
